| Hi again Marie Thought you might be interested to know that in the 1841 Census your great-grandmother Sarah ANN LANGLEY's father William + her grandmother Elizabeth LANGLEY (indexed by Ancestry as LARGBERY) were living next door to my 3 x great-grandparents William & Ann EVANS, William being licensee of the Little Brighton Inn in Liscard :- HO 107/128/1 folio 15 page 25 Liscard, Cheshire Elizabeth LANGLEY, 35, Ind, Y James, 15, Y Joseph, 12, Y William, 6, Y Jane, 10, Y Sarah, 5, Y [age should read 8] John, 4, Y Next door on the other side :- Joseph WATKINS, 35, plasterer, N John, 15, N The 1851 Census has :- HO 107/2174 folio 294 page 62 Liscard, Cheshire Joseph MATTHEWS, 45, plasterer, CHS Chester Elizabeth, wife, 45, CHS West Kirby Sarah LANGLEY, daur, 17, CHS Liscard William LANGLEY, son, 15, CHS Liscard Interesting that there's no Joseph MATTHEWS/Elizabeth LANGLEY marriage, and that the children are listed as daughter & son rather than stepdaughter & stepson? Elizabeth is believed to have been Elizabeth JACKSON, baptised in West Kirby St Bridget on 28 March 1802, daughter of Ann JACKSON, single woman, of Caldy. (A Thomas, son of Ann JACKSON, single woman, of Caldy, was baptised in the same church on 3 September 1806). The West Kirby St Bridget PR's also have this baptism :- 25 March 1825 Mary, daughter of Elizabeth JACKSON, single woman, of Grange And the IGI this marriage :- 4 September 1826 Liverpool St Paul, St Paul's Square William LANGLEY and Elizabeth JACKSON The West Kirby PR's again have this baptism :- 25 October 1826 James of William & Elizabeth LONGLEY, servant, of Irby And the IGI these :- 11 July 1831 Wallasey St Hilary Jane, daughter of William LONGLEY & Elizabeth 15 October 1833 Wallasey St Hilary Sarah, daughter of William LANGLEY & Elizabeth 22 May 1835 Wallasey St Hilary William, son of William LANGLEY & Elizabeth 26 February 1837 Wallasey St Hilary John, son of William LANGLEY & Elizabeth Interestingly, the 1851 Census has this :- HO 107/2175 folio 38 page 9 26 Chester Street, Birkenhead Samuel JONES, 25, shoemaker, CHS Birkenhead Mary, wife, 26, CHS Caldy William, son, 2, CHS Birkenhead Thomas, son, 3 months, CHS Birkenhead Joseph LANGLEY, visitor, U, 22, gardener, CHS Seacombe. The above Joseph appears to be Elizabeth LANGLEY's 12 year-old son from the 1841 Liscard Census? And the IGI has this marriage :- 12 September 1848 Liverpool St Nicholas Samuel JONES and Mary JACKSON So the 'visitor' and the lady of the house appear to be half-siblings - both being children of Elizabeth JACKSON, born 1802 in Caldy? This JACKSON line, incidentally, goes back to a John JACKSON and Ann WOODS who married on 11 December 1758 in Burton St Nicholas and who lived & died in Puddington. Which is where my own ancestors were living in the early 1600's - hence my nom de plume. :-) |
