Anne Spoor was born in 1802 in Newcastle in the county of Northumberland, the daughter of Robert Spoor. It is believed that her christening took place on Sep. 7, 1802 in All Saints Parish. She married Thomas Brown b. 1789 (also of Newcastle) on August 24, 1825 in St. Andrew's Parish, Newcastle. With their children, Anne and Thomas emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1846 on the "John R. Skiddy." Robert Spoor and his father, John Spoor were active in the Methodist movement and hosted John Wesley when he visited Newcastle shortly before his death.
