Does anyone have this man in their family, he married Mary ? and they had 2 children by the 1881 census, Alf born around 1879 and Mildred born around 1880.
John could have had a brother called George. They both lived next door to each other at the time of the census and had the same job as a Lab Iron Moulder

Not my family...but John AYRES married Mary MEAGER in Houghton Conquest on the 12th October 1879 according to the IGI

The only AYRES listed on the 1851 index for Eastcotts [Cotton End] are :

Joseph, aged 20
Mary, 45 [she was born in Maulden]
William, 46

There are no 'MEAGERS' listed in Houghton Conquest in 1851

I couldnt see John AYRES & Mary MEAGERs marriage on the IGI...

but Alfred's birth is listed there in the June quarter of 1879 [ref 3b 352], this would confirm mother's maiden name

I think you need to get John AYRES marriage cert it would have been issued in the Bedford district in the December quarter of 1879 as it will give you their father's names ...or see the 1861 or '71 census for Eastcotts and Houghton Conquest

John Ayres was my great grandfather. He moved from Cotten End to the East End of London. His youngest son Albert was my Grandfather (Born WestHam 1899) and my father Arthur was born in West Ham in 1923

i am looking for a George Ayres, son of Thomas Ayres. He was born in 1849 and was living in Cotton End in 1876 when he married Elizabeth Yoxen. I think his brother was your John Ayres, or a possible relative. Does this sound familiar to you?

That was a struggle! To find George in 1851. Finally found him in Cotton End, the whole family enumerated as Hares.

What are you looking for about him?

The family was still living in Cotton End in 1861, minus Thomas the father who presumably had died. They are enumerated as HARE with George age 11 and John W age 6

If you haven't got them I can post full details of the 1851 and 1861

that would be great if you could post all of that for me. I managed to find Georges death registry yesterday so I will be sending away for the cert.
We havent been able to go back any further at this stage.

much appreciated. It said on Georges marriage cert that Thomas was a carpenter but i havent really picked this up for a while so Im back on track now! I wouldnt have even thought on the Hare name. thanks for your help,
