Alfred WORBEY lived in Bedfordshire nearly all his life at 19, St. Andrews Place in Hitchin. He had at least one son (Charles) and a daughter (Elizabeth) who married my great grandfather Albert CRAWLEY. I would be grateful for any information regarding any member of the families especially Alfred Worbey`s occupation and his wife`s Christian and maiden names.

I have recently started researching my family and we have the same family, I would be keen to get in contact with you! Alfred Worbey (also seen as Warboys) was born in Q3 of 1850. I have details of (I think) 12 children and then other generations below!

Hi Lee,
It seems there is definitely a connection through Alfred Worbey/Worboys b. 1850 in Walsworth.
Alfred was my GG Grandfather and I have 10 children listed from his marriage to Emma Saunders.
I`d be glad to exchange info with you.

Hi Tony

Just reading through your communications with Lee. My monther was a Worbey and one of 10 children, although she was born in about 1922, but I am wondering if there is a connection.

Regards - Caroline

Hello Caroline, I have quite an extensive Worbey/Warbey/etc tree which has a Caroline Worbey born 1922/1923. Her Father was Arthur Worbey - Mother Lilian Wyatt.
Arthur Worbey (b 1876) was the son of Alfred Worbey who was my G G Grandfather (he had a wooden leg).
Anything sound hopeful?

Best wishes, Tony

Hi Tony,

I have just been reading your threads, as it turns out I think your G G Grandad (with the wooden leg) is my G G Grandad too! I have been told stories that he used to keep gold coins in it. My Grandad who past in 1977 was Jack Worbey, who was Married to Dorris Worbey, (both Worbey's before they were married). My Aunt Janice is in the process of putting together our family tree and she has got lots of old photos of our family, some as early as 1892!

If you have any info to offer or would like to find out more from me please do get in contact

Hi James,
Nice to hear from you. It certainly sounds promising. It`s always great to come across a new lead or branch of the family.
I`ll have a look at my Tree tomorrow when I`ve got some time and get back to you again. I do have 3 photos of Alfred, one of them with his son, Grandson and Great Grandson in a newspaper clipping.
If things do tie in I would love to have a copy of any old photos you may have and I would, naturally, send you what I have as well as the Worbey Tree (which is quite extensive) and copies of BMD certificates.

Will contact you again shortly,

Regards, Tony

Hi Tony,

Good to hear from you, I should imagine that we link somewhere along the line, as I said before both my Nan and Grandad were Worbey's before they were married, my Nan had i think 7 sisters and one brother, I think her brother died at aged about 6 or 7, he was run over by a bus. My Grandad had I think 7 or 8 brothers, and they were land owners, they had big orchards in Hitchin which were all sold off in the late sixties for housing, they had a big house where the fire station is now called orchard house which is now gone. It is my Grandad's side which I think is related to alfred, although my aunt's research show's that the two families are linked to two brothers about six or seven generations before. I will wait to see if you think we are related, and if you then need any other info my aunt knows the family history extensively!
