My family all come from England, near London, but most of the Gorringes I have found, unrelated to this branch, are from Sussex

We are only sure back to 1817, so I can't say for certain at this point. Sorry. We are in the area of Hastings, Sussex at that time.

I have been looking at the Gorringe family a little bit because a descendant by marriage of Mervyn Gorringe who emigrated to New Zealand and was killed in WW1 was staying with a friend of mine recently. I live very near Kingston House which some of the Gorringes lived in. We have some Gorringes like Gen George Frederick Gorringe & Dorothea Lewknor Gorringe & others buried in the churchyard next to what used to be Kingston House.

My Gorringe's are from Sussex as well
I have them dated back to 1700 and before...
I have a Thomas Gorringe married an Anne Smith.
They had many children, first born was Mary born in 1706.
I have them coming to US or Canada in or around 1878-1883.
As I have 2 siblings born in Canada, namely Ontario in 1883, and 1887.
...................
My great Grandmother was from this family line, she was born in Sussex, in 1871-72 and came to Canada between 1878-1883 with her family. She later married George (John) Wilson in 1894 and had 5 children.
Gray -Married 2nd time and had 2 more children.
..........
I have a lot of names and dates of prior Gorringes in England, I'm willing to share.. if you would like or if you think we could have a connection.

Regards

Doubt that Alice is in our family: Our Wm Gorringe b. 1817 Hastings married Betsy Tuckwell b. 1823 Cirencester. Married Nov 15 1844 Burford Oxford. Had 21 children but only 11 lived: Carrie b. about 1846, Moly Ann 1851, Charles 1854, Emma 1856, William F. b. 1858, George 1860, Harriet 1861, Emily 1862, Sarah J 1864, Susan 1866, Jane 1870. Seeing as they had so many children, I suppose it is conceivable (no pun intended) that Alice could have been born before Carrie, but we have no knowledge of an Alice in the family. There were many William Gorringes in Sussex. Can you find Alice's mother's name.
