Mitford Castle? - Bedfordshire

G'day from an ignorant Aussie!

Can somebody tell me if there is a Mitford Castle in England that is NOT the ancient building in Northumberland.

My grandparents married in 1899, at St Marks Church
Parish of Bow, County London
Both give their residence as Mitford Castle.

Granddad was born in Bedford, all census returns show him to be living in Bedfordshire
Occupation progressing from apprentice tinman & brazier through to Whitesmith & Gas Fitter

Grandma was born in Slough Bucks and is still there in 1891

They are living in Bedford during the 1901 census.

So I'm a bit befuddled as to how they would be in Mitford Castle, Northumberland in 1899 when I can find no other connection with the place.

Would appreciate if somebody could confirm there is only one Mitford Castle - the ancient building - or point me to an area elsewhere known as Mitford Castle

TIA
LG

Mitford is also a registration district in Norfolk see:

Can you please add into the body of your posting the names of your grandparents otherwise I will have to remove it.

Kind regards,

Hi Martin
Thanks for the speedy reply.
As my query was regarding a place I didn't see the need to include the names of my ancestors in my original post.
I will correct that now...

Edward Lewis Craddock, son of
Sam Craddock & Ann Elizabeth Swales

Lizzie Maria Scott, daughter of
William Scott & Elizabeth Strudwick.

I have managed to find their residence.
They were actually living in Bow at *The* Mitford Castle
A public house which is now known as the
'Top o' the Morning' on what is now called Cadogan Terrace.

It would have reduced confusion if the street address had been entered along with the pub's name...sigh.

Apparently in 1864 the Mitford Castle public house was where the 'first person murdered on a train' was brought to.
There is a blue plaque attached to the front of the pub regarding this.

Without that little bit of notoriety I would never have picked up on the fact that it was a pub rather than a parish. Even so it took many hours of googling!

Regards
LG
