I have a portrait of John Hutton 1807-Sep 1868 and am seeking information about him. (He is no relation to my family and the only information I have is printed below.)

On the back of the painting it says:
"JOHN HUTTON OF ELIE, FIFESHIRE N.B. & MARK LANE, LONDON.
BORN 1807 DIED SEP 1868.
THIS PORTRAIT WAS PAINTED BY A MEMBER OF THE SOCIETY OF BRITISH ARTISTS AND EXHIBITED IN THEIR GALLERY ABOUT THE YEAR 1852."

Hi!
This might be an ancestor of mine, but it is a "long shot". My gggrandfather was James Hutton, born 1780 in Burntisland, Fife(shire) His father was John Hutton, married to Helen Abercrombie. Like all my Huttons, they were very prolific, having children over many years, similar builds and similar features. Would it be possible for you to scan this portrait and e mail me a copy?

Thanks, Norm Hutton

Thank you for the copy of John Hutton. Sorry I did not get back earlier! We just changed residences, and I lost some data in the process.
Good hunting, Norm

Did he turn out to be one of yours? If so, can you tell me anything about him?

Hi!

I have sent off a copy of the portrait to my cousin via snail mail . I hope she can respond fairly soon. She may have more photos for a comparison. His hair is parted on the right side instead of the left! However his ears have long lobes, similar head structure, blue eyes, and a similar type nose! A handsome , upright looking man indeed! I will keep you posted! Thanks again!
Norm

I have discovered John Hutton did belong to our family. He married Eliza Dow in Stepney London England 21 Aug 1851. John was a watch and chronometer maker.
Does that help determine a connection to you?
