Am back to middle of 16th century with my family - does anyone have any connection to them or more information about them?

I too am following the Nichols family from Castlethorpe and wonder if we tie up.
My earliest Nichols gentleman is Thomas 1562 who married twice No. 1 Elizabeth Paratt and No. 2 Anne Ellis.

If you recognise any of the names please get in touch as I have a lot of information on this family I would love to share
Pat

Hi Pat
Yes, Thomas Nichols is our common ancestor. I have him with his two wives, although I think he had three wives. Anyway I am descended from James Nichols b.1635/6. The earliest ancestor I have is the father of Thomas Nichols, Thomas Nycolle. He died 23.03.1573. He was married about 1560 to Joanne. She died 1604. Does this add to your family tree?

Hi Alix,

I have 2 wives for Thomas but did not have his parents - so more names to put on the sheet!
I do not have a James born 1635/6 - is he the son of Thomas born 1611 and Mary? as this is the only couple that I have with any family out of Thomas's children.

Looks like we could have lots of information to share.
Are you able to download a Gedcom file as with over 600 names on my tree it takes forever to print it all out.
Hope to hear from you soon
Pat

Hi Pat
Regarding Thomas and his three wives, I have Ann Ellis down as his third wife, and Elizabeth Parrot as his second wife, but the children are from his first wife, name unknown. However, I will check my 'secondary' sources as my 'cousin' sent me the information and also passed on some information from another 'cousin'. Some of it does not correspond and I had to sort it out.

Apologies about James born 1635 - the print on the tree was so small I got mixed up. John was born 1635 and his son James was born 1679, married to Patience.

I have a software called Legacy which I have just installed to see if it downloads gedcom files - and it does, so I will try if you send the file.

My tree has been typed on Wordperfect Quattro. I can attach it if you think you can download it. Let me know. Otherwise I will print it out, scan it, and attach it. I suppose I should have used Legacy to store everything.

Did you know that on Friday 5, Saturday 6, and Sunday 7 August, Castlethorpe are having a Open Day to celebrate 100 years when some cottages in the centre of the village caught fire. A passing steam engine shot a spark to the thatched roofs.

They will have an exhibition of the history of Castlethorpe with photos containing the Nichols family. Also, the vicar will be showing the parish records. There are still Nichols family living in Castlethorpe.

I am going down on Saturday 6th.

Regards Alix

Hi Alix,

found John married to Katherine ? and your James married to Patience? We both come from the same line as mine drops down from James son William who married Francis Garrett- then his son William who married Mary Panter - then William and Phoebe Cole - then William and Mary Stones and then on to daughter Hannah who had her son William three days before her 15th birthday but went on to marry and have a family. (Far too many Williams!)

Shall we try the Gedcom files and see what happens? I have to fill in my e-mail address at the top of this reply can you see that or do I have to put it in the message space. This is the first time I have had a contact through Rootsweb and do not know the procedure.
You lucky thing going to Castlethorpe on the 5th August, I should think it would be very interesting. Is that when the Family History Society is holding its fair? as I am in touch with one of the men who help run it but he is not doing the Nichols family but another one I am researching but just happens to live in Hanslope. I have often wondered if the Nichols clan still lived in the Village.
I got most of my pre 1837 information from Rev. Peake as he had put all the BMD information on his computer and for a donation sent me so much. I believe he has now retired and wonder if he left the research behind or took it with him.
Look forward to hearing from you and exchanging all that lovely information.
From your relation in law
Take care
Pat

Alix,
The Mary Panter mentioned by Pat Nichols was the sister of one of my Panter ancestors. I was interested in your comments about the Parish Records being on display. When I was going through the registers, those for Castlethorpe and Hanslope were almost the only ones in the county which hadn't been filmed or deposited in the archive at Aylesbury. It sounds as though that is still the case. Do you know whether the new vicar intends to hold on to them?

Hi Roger,

it sounds as if our Rev. Beake has taken his computer records with him.
Unfortunately since I have moved I have not been able to find mine, still probably packed in the loft but, hopefully will around to sorting them out.
