Hi all, I'm looking for help in looking a bit further back in William's tree if possible. He was married to Sarah Hedges, b abt 1760 in Bucklebury, Berks; any information for Sarah would be appreciated as well. I've identified one son, Francis, b 1789 in Wendover. Thanks in advance, cheers, Glenn

There is an extracted parish record on the IGI for a christening of William Buggy in Wendover on 20 Nov 1763, mother Anne Buggy

Again, an extracted parish record in Buckleybury, christening of Sarah Hedges on 4 apr 1760, parents Nathaniel Hedges and Mary.
Looks like Sarah had a sister, Mary, christened 17 May 1767

The following appear on IGI as christened in Wendover, parents William Buggy and Sarah
Mary Buggy, 6 nov 1785
John, 3 dec 1786
Joseph, 22 May 1791
Sarah, 29 Sep 1793

Hope this helps
Christine

Christine, thank you very much for the quick response. I'm not familiar with the IGI?

Do you have any guidance on how I can determine William's father's name, as well as Anne's maiden name?

Cheers, Glenn

Hi Glenn

IGI = International Genealogical Index
Some of this appears on the familysearch site. If the record is an extracted parish record, it's OK. The familysearch site also has entries which are submitted. Be wary of those - as in all cases where info is submitted (including census returns and death certs!), information is only as good as the informant.

Try this address for the IGI in UK
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatch...

As only Anne is mentioned on the christening, I suspect William was illegitimate. If someone was able to look at the parish record for Wendover, it might say whether he was or not.

Hope this helps.
Christine

Hi Glen
I have been tracing the Buggy line (I was born a Buggy!). William and Sarah had 9 children born between 1784 and 1795.
William 1864-1865 married Elizabeth Green and had 5 children
Mary 1785
John 1786
Ann 1788-1838 married Samuel Burnham
Francis 1789-1835 married Anne Harvey - this is my line
Joseph John 1791 - 1796
Frances 1792
Sarah 1793 married William George
Martha 1795
William married a second time to Anne Taylor in 1796 and had a son Joseph 1797.

William's parents were William Buggy b.1732 and Anne b.1742 - married 1762.
William's parents were Thomas Buggy 1714 and Sarah Wright 1715 - married 1735
Thomas's parents were Thomas Buggy 1681 and Ann Holdun 1687 - married 1714
Thomas's parents were Thomas Buggy 1663 and Hannah Peder 1660 - married 1680. Thomas was born in StMartinn in the Fields London.

Would love to know your link with the Buggy line.

Jenny

William married a second time to Anne Taylor in 1796 and they had a son Joseph born 1797.

Jenny, it is good to hear from you! Thank you very much for the quick response. My wife is a Buggy, and she descends from the Francis Buggy-Anne Harvey line as well! From their son William, to his son Joshua, to his son Philip; my wife's father is Baron Philip born in 1935 in Eastbourne, Sussex. Do you still live in the UK or are do you live in the colonies? Take care, Glenn

Hi Glenn
My email is jenny6@m27jw.entadsl.com. We live on the Isle of WIght.
My line comes from William Buggy 1812 and Ann Lovell as well - his son Edward born 1852 - his son Edward born 1883 and his son Arthur born 1912. My dad had 4 girls so no Buggy names now. His dad had 2 boys and 2 girls - the eldest son Charles changed his name to Baxter by Deed Poll (but he only had a daughter so no Buggy names left) and neither of the daughters married so that stops the Buggy name. My grandfather Edward died in WW1. My dad died in 1996.

I would love to find out more about Joshua and his line - I am intrigued by the name Baron. He is my second cousin once removed.

Good to find you!!!!

Best wishes
Jenny

Jenny, I would be happy to introduce you to him!

He was named Baron Philip so that his name wouldn't be shortened, i.e. Phil. Well, that didn't work out too well, as that's what he is known by here in the States. He came to the U.S. with the RAF and was stationed in Omaha, Nebraska, where he met his wife.

I will give him a heads-up and, if you don't mind, I will give him your email address? Please let me know if that is OK. He also has two living sisters - one still in Eastbourne, East Sussex and the other in Padstow, Cornwall.

It is good to find you too! Cheers! Glenn

Hi Glenn

Of course you can give my email to Baron - I will be so pleased to meet him and to know about his life.

There were so many Buggys living in and around London at the end of the 19th and beginning of 20th century and then they dispersed all over the place - Australia, New Zealand, Canada. My mum started the research back in 1970 and I took it over after her death in 1999.

Anyway - I would love to meet and "talk" to Baron.

Best wishes

Jenny
