Hi

My grandfather was Joseph Jackson born 18/02/1893 in Park Lane, Oldbury, Worcestershire (then) England. He survived the Somme and Ypres, captured, escaped to Switzerland and married my grandmother Marthe Buser in 2 ceremonies in Lausanne and Bern on the 1st/3rd August 1918. Lucky me. His father was Joseph Jackson also and his mother Eliza Jane Elizabeth Knowles.Believe he had 2 sisters Emily and Matilda and a brother Henry. Any links?

Best wishes

Keith
keith.attwell@blueyonder.co.uk

Have you found them in any census at all? I've just had a quick look and cant find them. I also looked for william's birth on familysearch.org and there wasnt a single Malpass born in clay hills on that site, which is usually helpful.

I did find a William Malpass born in 1813 in Bitterley, Shropshire, he had a brother called John, born the same place. They also had many siblings. There parents were Benjamin and Elizabeth.

Hope this is some help.

Emma.

Great to hear from you!!!
My ancestor Ellen Whale married Isaiah Jackson in Tipton in 1845. Her parents were William Whale and Elizabeth Stringer. I have much more on their ancestors and their descendants.
Their name Whale often appeared as Wheale
.......................................................
I have John Woodall and Marey? marrying 1661. Among their off spring was a son John Jr who marries Mary Hollis. Then son Joseph married Mary Hadley 1716 Dudley. I have extensive data on their line down to a marriage of their descendant Isaiah Jackson as above
............................................................
My Whitehouses are more recent with Joseph Whitehouse marrying Bertha Owen ..1906.....my grandmother's( Mary Owen) sister
I also have another situation where a Whitehouse married an Allen girl in the 1950's.Her grandmother mother was also a Dudley Owen.
I can unravel the Whitehouses!
..........................................................
I have Jackson from Dudley on BOTH sides of my Dudley ancestry
............................................................The surname Stringer also appears frequently
Perhaps we have a link with each other. Email me at srjacx@yahoo.ca and I will hopefully find common ancestors

As an original member of RRO, I was sad to see it go but was pleased to also be an original member of Black Country Gob. Which apart from being able to help with Black Country History Family Research, also has forums covering Black Country Trades and Local History. The Black Country Gob Gallery is a marvellous collection of images of BlackCountry Folk and Buildings including many no longer standing.

Well known Black Country names, like Tibbetts, Hadley, Willetts, Rose, Parkes and many more besides can be found there.

Black Country Connections (http://bcconnections.tribalpages.com/) is indeed a team effort with a lot of people adding information - that is the whole point of it really.

Naturally this can lead to errors but we have a clear policy on this matter. If anyone disagrees with some of the information on the site then they are welcome to contact the administrators and we will look into the matter.

Usually what we do is throw the topic open for discussion on http://www.genealogyforum.co.uk/forum/ and/or check the original data at the archives.

It works a little like Wikipedia - we rely on people pointing out the mistakes so they can be fixed but do not see our site as 100% reliable. The up-side of having so many contributors is that although there may be more errors entered there are also more people to spot them :-)

Occasionally there may be cases where there are two interpretations based on the same inconclusive data. When that happens we tend to let the first post stand and add a note pointing out the second possibility.

So, if you have spotted any mistakes please let us know so that we can look into them. We now have over 16000 entries on the site and I would them all to be correct if possible.

Kate (one of the administrators of Black Country Connections)

I found a number of inaccuracies in that bc Tribal Pages. Seems to me it's a case of quantity, not quality, with information being entered by various people.

If anyone is thinking of taking information from there, I would recommend they check it all out at the archives before using it. As you should when using all information taken from other people's research.

These are the names I am researching in Dudley/Netherton/W.Bromwich, Amblecote. Richard Stroyde grandson of Richard Stride m.Sarah Jane Garrett. Mother re-married Samuel Clempson who had properties in Netherton and Amblecote. Richard the younger changed his name to Stroyde-Clempson to gain inheritance. This is my mother's maiden name and she is the granddaughter of Richard the younger. Anyone have any connections. Stroyde believed Dudley pronunciation of Stride.

Many thanks for help from anyone.
Jane

Emily Ann Saxe TURNER and Rupert Charles BROWN / BURLEIGH in the Black Country

Hi! I hope one of you Black Country historians might be able to help me with a little of my family history research, please.

Emily Ann Saxe Turner is my great-great-grandmother. Her family lived in Penshurst-Aylesford-Maidstone area of Kent. My family oral history says she worked for the Wards of Dudley around 1850 and conceived a child by one of them. I have an ambro-type photograph of her that dates to the early 1850s. About 1852/3 she married a Charles William Brown who was a storekeeper at the Royal Navy depot, Deptford. Soon after they went to Hong Kong, returning in 1872 when CWB died. She lived on for many years. I have another photo of her taken in Croydon, Surrey, in about 1900.

Her son Rupert Charles Brown, later Burleigh(1851/2-1919), lived in the Birmingham area in the 1880s to mid-1890s. He was the proprietor of a steam laundry in either Sutton Coldfield or Solihull. This is reputed to have been established with Dudley money. The laundry went bankrupt by 1889 but within 10 years, RCB was established with a new laundry in Thornton Heath, Surrey, by means of a loan from the Dudleys. This was made into a succesful business by his son, Rupert Eric Burleigh(1880/1-1957), and the loan repaid.

Can anyone help me with any aspect of this story, please.

Thanks.

JACKSON, OWEN Black Country

I am searching for anyone who has a link to my Jackson and Owen ancestors in or near Dudley.

Edward OWEN married Mary Ann JACKSON abt 1876. Their children were Mary ,Edward ,Ellen, Bertha, Ruth, Miriam ,Job Abel, Jane, Thomas, Isaiah ,and Alfred OWEN

Thomas Owen, a brother to Edward, married Ellen Jackson a sister to Mary Ann.Their children were Alfred ,Thomas ,Arthur,Edward, Howard William,Abel, Ellen,Ethel, Florence and Edith OWEN.
Going back one generation the siblings of Mary Ann JACKSON and Ellen JACKSON were :Thomas ,Solomon,William,Ellen,Isaiah,Elizabeth,George and Alfred JACKSON. The parents were Isaiah Jackson and Ellen WHEALE/WHALE
Some of the subsequent family names that descendants have married into are: Newry,Sheldon,Taylor,Hayes,Raybould,Hadley,Willetts,Dudding,Hughes,Davies, Allen,Hewitt.
Unfortunately the information I have on these people is only the last names of spouses of some of the children of Edward and Thomas
Perhaps there are current researchers in the Dudley area who might help me link with the past by connecting me with any of the present descendants. I feel I could put the whole package together if I could work backward from one present link.

Hi Bud

I have some same-name Jackson's in my tree - from Wolverhampton, Staffordshire:
- Mary Ann Jackson, Born December 2, 1847, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England; m. HENRY JONES, September 13, 1868
- ELLEN JACKSON, b. Abt. September 1861, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire

Not sure if there's any connection, but maybe Mary was on a second marriage or maybe the info I have on Mary is incorrect.

Regards
Tammy

I have John Bushell (Polesworth) whose daughter Sarah (1832)married William Walters (my 2x gt grandfather). Is there any connection to your family?

Velda

I have looked at your website, it's very interesting. I couldn't find any canal maps for the area around Tipton though. Would a journey from Polesworth (Warks)to Tipton have been possible along the canal? Have you come across the Bushell family in research?
