I'd love it. I am stuck on my great grandfather, Robert Thomas Miller, who was born May 26, 1895 in Norfolk (according to his death certificate). I know he came to NY or Canada around 1912 so he should be on the 1911 census. There is also his mother, Mary Ann Williams or Williamson, his younger brothers William and Ernest, and an older sister, Anna. His father, William,a Presbyterian Minister, died before Robert came to America so I'm not sure if he was alive in 1911 or not. My grandmother is turning 90 in January and I'm trying to get this done as a gift. Thank you for offering to look this up, I appreciate it. Michelle Vance

Thanks for your reply

I am descendesd from William Bull and Emma Hibbert)Great Grandparents), through James Arthur Bull and Annie Collins Grand Parents) James Arthur Bull Beatrice Bull nee Kirton ( Parents)

I have been able to trace William from Birth in 1826 to Death in 1903.The marrige certifcate show a Johmn Bull as father( and John Hibbert)

I had found that he and one (now two William born 1853) sons
had worked in the Brewery I can not remeber the owners name at this moment, the Brewrey was in St Johns Road Islewoth and was still ther till llate 1980's or early 1990's. The owners did provide monies for the building of the St Johns church and also the Alms Houses that are still standing today. There is aplaque outside the church that outlines this ansd a few more facts

Another of his sons John worked in Soap Factory this was on teh London Road Isleworth it was PEARS SOAP and was there till the 1960. This became offices and had a big Sports Field I think for Beecchams and just recently this became Flats

James Arthur , I had found that he had serveresd in the Army. His Service Record had caused me some concern where it showed he served till October 1902. He was shown as living in The Lodge Gunnersbury House ( Chiswick) in June of 1897 when he married Annie Collins, this was because he was first released form the Army in to Special Reserve early 1897 and was recalled October 1899 and was in South Africa which was the Boar War.

I am working on a number of sides to both the Bull and Kirton family

What would be useful is any help relating to Bull's Whiitton
(Seaton Rd Hounslow Rd or Saxon Ave Hanworth)these os=are address's of James Arthur Annine Collins descendants.

I still llve in the area and have a son and daughter-in-law who livwe about 1/2 a mile from Seaton Rd

I know that there are otrher looking so who knows what may happen.

If you wish I could foward my Email Adress

Thanks Alan

Yes, been a while since I did much research, but I am descended from George Bull, brother of James, and son of William Bull and Emma Hibbert. I will look up your tree shortly. From my searches, James was in the Royal Artillery?? The only children I had on my notes to date was Ellen & Beatrice.

George Bull was actually my great grandfather, he was 53 when my grandmother was born in 1913 and I do have a photo of him in 1940 aged 80. I am also in touch with descendants of Frederick, another brother to James and George. Fred had a son Sydney and then a son Reg, who it turns out lives only 5 miles away from me so we met up a year or so ago. The family resemblance was amazing!

I am aware that William Bull (1826) parents were John Bull and Maria Fritter (Flitter). After John died in 1835 Maria married again to a gentleman with surname Dicker. They had more children and at one stage in late census records one of the Bull's lives next door but 3 to his half "Dicker" brother.

Not sure what you are know about the eldest brother, William born 1853? He committed suicide in the Brewery where he worked - possibly depression or something to do with his wife having an affair but not sure what to make of the newspaper report of the inquest.

Happy to share any info I have on the Bulls.

Hello Alberta24. I have only just seen your post on William Sawyer of Hagbourne. I have the PRs for St.Andrews church East Hagbourne (there is no church at West Hagbourne)and was brought up in the next village. A Charles SAYER and Mary
Lambourne, spinster, married there, by Banns, on 20.1.1805. Their witnesses were Anne Maria Higgs and Martha Higgs. No Charles Sawyer married there except those in 1845 and 1884, so I expect Charles Sayer was probably a Sawyer. However, Charles & Mary SAYER had their first and ONLY son baptised there on 9.6.1805. There followed seven baptisms of children of Charles & Mary SAWYER, as follows :-
20.10.1807 William. 2.12.1810 Charlotte (who was buried there on 13.7.1813) 23.5.1813 John. 25.2.1816 Joseph
14.5.1818 Thomas. 22.4.1821 Job. 31.8.1823 Charles.
No Charles Sawyer was baptised there before 1823, but a Charles SAYER was baptised there on 8.2.1782 the son of John & Elizabeth SAYER. The only John SAYERS married there were in 1704 & 1716, and the only John Sawyer married there was in 1845. I hope this makes sense, and is not too late. Do please contact me again if you wish. Joe

Hello, Yes it could be. I was very young when she died so I may have the name a bit wrong. I know she was married to a Bartlett though. Do you have any other info? Thanks.

The PRs for St Nicolas have been partly transcibed (1538-1746) bit not published (copies available in the Berkshire Record Office and a few libraries).

There are also various indexes: C 1538-1634, 1655-1741, 1783-1884, M 1634-1746, 1754-1854, B 1538-1746, 1798-1890.

This sort of information is available on the BRO website for all Berks parishes and non-conformist churches.

Burials and marriages will be in the Berkshire FHS Marriage and Burials Indexes.

Re: In Hurley Berks. Looking for Heath, Hicks, Buckland families

Hi
Could you be looking for surname variants here, if so how about Hakes for Hicks?
Looking at the marriage record on the IGI for Richard Hicks and Martha Buckland, it says both their fathers were called William and there is a William Hicks in Hurley in the 1841 and 1851 census.
In 1841,
Piece 11 Book 11 Foilo 5 Page 4
Parish Hurley
William Hicks 70
Hannah 60
Mary 20

Looking for baptisms in Hurley to parents William and Hannah you can find
Richard Hakes born 18 August 1814; baptized 11 September 1814
also
Sarah Elizabeth Hicks bap. 11 June 1809
Hannah Heath bap. 9 June 1811
Mary Hakes born 31 July 1816; bap. 25 August 1816

With rounding down of ages in 1841 looks as though Mary Hicks could be the Mary Hakes born in 1816.

In the Berkshire Burial Index, in St Peter, Knowl Hill (Hurley)
Hannah Hicks buried 16 May 1852, aged 80, abode/address Warren Hill
William Hicks/Heath (listed under both) buried 23 October 1853, aged 86, abode Wargrave, Cockpole

It's possible that Martha may have been baptized in Hurley on 23 January 1814 as Martha Buckling (born 26 December 1813)
to William and Susannah.
There is a marriage in Hurley in 1804 for William Bucklin and Susannah Brown and then four baptisms in nearby Bray to William Bucklin/Buckeln/Buckland and Susannah (gives her maiden name as Brown). Then in Hurley, after Martha, they have George and Matilda, both Buckling.
To confuse things a little there's a William and Hannah Buckling having children in Hurley until about 1804 (Susannah)

In the Burial index, in Hurley St Mary, and trying to seperate the two Williams out,
Susanna Buckling buried 9 September 1821 aged 38, abode Hurley
William Buckland buried 17 March 1848 aged 70, abode Hurley

I know there are a lot of variations in spelling in these registers, no doubt caused by pronounciation, but I don't know if that's the explanation for Hicks/Heath or not.

Hope this is useful
Kind regards
Janet

Thanks for that advice. I have used the Berkshire Records Office to do research for me on other occasions and they are very helpful. I live in South-East Asia so try whenever possible to do the research on the net. The IGI has some records but not for the period I need.

Hello, as White Waltham is in Berkshire you should be able to get some information from the Berkshire Records Office which is situated just of Castle hill in Reading. Signposted as you go up Castle Hill from the IDR. I have been there on many occasions and found Records of my relations. The Kelley's Directory is very good. The staff are very helpful as well. If you do not live in the area you should phone them and ask if they can help you. Hope this is useful to you.
