Great Shelford baptisms and marriages up to 1876 have been extracted onto the IGI. There were two Ansells baptised at about that time who may be connected, children of William and Ann.

I Have those, But I have never found John's baptism. I agree that it is very likely this is a correct assumption.

As 1761 was the first child of William to Ann to be baptised in Gt Shelford, and as they weren't married in the parish, there must be a chance that John was baptised elsewhere, perhaps where they married.

I have even checked the Ubiversity marriages for the wedding of William & Ann to find some cle as yo the birth of the earlier children.

It's just struck me that the Gt Shelford baptisms on the IGI are female only. Goodness knows what possessed the LDS to do that. However the males are on the BVRI but there's still no Ansell immediately earlier than the 1761 baptism. The only John was 10 Sept 1780 son of Joseph and Mary Ansell.

No John Manfield either I'm afraid.
