I am researching the Largue family tree. My grandmother was Jane Largue born in Maryport in 1887. She married a Scotsman - Jim
McGuckin and my mother (
Lily) was born in Maryport in 1908. The family moved to
Barrow soon afterwards, and that is where I come from. I have traced a lot of Largues in Maryport, and then some of them moved to Co
Durham. I have got as far back as Benjamin Largue who was born in Ireland in 1777. His son James was also born in Ireland in 1814, and the family moved to Maryport soon afterwards. I am stuck getting any further back than this. Can you help? I am also confused as I was always told by my mother that the Largue family originated from France, but I can't prove this. I believe that they may have been
Huguenots who fled from France in the late 1600's/early 1700's, but I've no proof of this either. Do you have any information about this?
