Surnames: largue,
Thanks for the advice, Kenny, I luckily found it on free bmd, so I have those details.
I am researching the Largues, as a favour to someone.
So will have to ask them for the pennys first.
regards Brenda

Hi Dorothy, actually I to think Logan, may well be a name it is interpreted as. I have found some under LARQUE too.
It is pronunced Larg.
This one did not come up on 1901 site, and I would think a real possibility.
So thank you very much.
many regards Brenda

Surnames: largue,
Is anyone still researching the Largue family from Maryport, Cumbria? I am doing it for a colleague at work, but from a distance as I don't live in the area.

I am descended from the Largues of Maryport. My family eventually moved to Whitehaven which is 10 miles from Maryport.
What I am confused about the two seperate branches of the family. There appears to be a Scottish branch from Scotland (Banfshire) and an English branch (Maryport). I am from the English branch which moved to Maryport from Ireland around 1710. I cant trace the Irish connection any further as most Irish records were destroyed. Family fokelore says that we are of French descent can anybody help me with any of the above issues.

I am researching the Largue family tree. My grandmother was Jane Largue born in Maryport in 1887. She married a Scotsman - Jim McGuckin and my mother (Lily) was born in Maryport in 1908. The family moved to Barrow soon afterwards, and that is where I come from. I have traced a lot of Largues in Maryport, and then some of them moved to Co Durham. I have got as far back as Benjamin Largue who was born in Ireland in 1777. His son James was also born in Ireland in 1814, and the family moved to Maryport soon afterwards. I am stuck getting any further back than this. Can you help? I am also confused as I was always told by my mother that the Largue family originated from France, but I can't prove this. I believe that they may have been Huguenots who fled from France in the late 1600's/early 1700's, but I've no proof of this either. Do you have any information about this?

Tom,
I also am trying to chase up Benjamin Largue prior to him coming over to Maryport, he is my great great great grandfather on my mothers maternal side (Durham). If you get any further back please let me know and I will do the same. Also heard the rumour on the French connection but again no proof.
