Hi, I am researching these families in Cumberland. The Olivants appear in the parish records in Lazonby dating from 1544, which name gradually changes to Oliphant about 1740's when they spread outside Inglewood forest area throughout Cumberland and into other counties, Lancashire, Northumberland being two in particular.
Any others out there on the same track ?

Hi, I am working on the Oliphant family from Workington, Cumberland England. What I have so far is limited.

I have a George Oliphant b. about 1812 in Workington, Cumberland England; d. unknown; Married Ann ? b. about 1819 in Workington, Cumberland England. e was a Sailor by Occupation. I am not sure if he was in the Royal navy or not. He only appears is 1 census record. Suggesting to me that he was at sail, often. They had the following children...
