my father was christopher barrass born in morpeth 19th november 1927 died november 30th 1977. I know he has family in newcastle. his mothers name was elizabeth gascoinge and his fathers name was robert barrass i know his mother died october 1963 if any one could be of any help i would be most grateful

I think I have found Ellen Crofts in 1881 living at the house of her grandparents in Dronfield--- they were Richard and Eliza Barras(Barran).

I found Ellen Crofts on passenger list coming to the USA that same year of 1881 with her siblings, mother Mary Ann Crofts and an Eliza Barrass was also on list. I think the ship was the Wyoming. Haven't gotten back there again. It sounds like you have found my family. I didn't have a name for Ellen's grandfather (Richard). I imagine Ellen's father probably went ahead.

My mother was Hannah Crofts born 1906 of Clay Cross Derbyshire but linked to the Kilbourn/Holbrook/Duffield Crofts. Her father was JOHN CROFTS, a pit deputy at Parkhouse Pit born in Kilbourn in 1865, and married to HANNAH STONE. His father was THOMAS (ARGYLE) CROFTS born in Kilbourn in 1832 and a miner who married ELIZA WHEATLEY, adressmaker, also from the village. But THOMAS's father was WILLIAM CROFTS a farmer of 28 acres born 1796 in Ripley.
Anyone recognise these links?- I have more, and go back to 1670, and possibly 1630, still in Derbyshire.
