Does anyone have any idea where Goodwin Street would have been situated (in Derby). My husband's ancestors (LAMB) lived there for some years and even ran a pub called The Shamrock at 59 & 60 Goodwin Street.
I have been unable to locate it on a modern map.

Bit of a circuitous approach, but Kelly's Directory for Derbyshire, 1895 gives it as running from 30 Walker Lane to 27 St Helen's St.

St Helens St still exists.

(see www.historicaldirectories.org, a bit troublesome to search but fascinating)

I also had ancestors in Goodwin St. I believe it was in St Akmund's Parish

Goodwin Street Derby is off Babington Lane. If you go up Babington Lane with what was the Locarno Ballroom on your left it off to the left just past the Locarno. Goodwin Street went from Babington to the Playhouse Theatre. The pub was on the left just a few houses up. In the '60s my husband was the general manager at the Locarno and he and the band used to go to this pub but it was not then called The Shamrock, but he cannot remember what it was called. It was just 2 terraced houses made into a pub but it was full of character and a typical old fashioned pub. Hope thatis of use to you.
Regards, June

Goodwin Street was not where June described it. She is describing the Sitwell Tavern (OR Arms) which was on Lower Sitwell Strret / Back Sitwell Street.
Goodwin Street was cleared in the late 50's early 60's in the West End slum clearance - many families were re-housed to the Beaufort Street area (Cowsley Estate) of Chaddesden.
It ran behind the King Street Swimming Baths - in between Queen Street / Walker Lane and St Helens Street. It is roughly where the Derby Inner Ring Road runs today - perhaps a little further out towards the five lamps.
