I wonder if anyone is visiting the DERBYSHIRE RECORD OFFICE. They hold a copy of a (WILL) made by Pte David John FEAR whilst at Brockton Camp near Stafford in 1917. I would like a copy or transcription of the will and would appreciate any help given.

Regards
Roy

Hi Cherie, lovely to hear from you. This all sounds pretty familiar! Good on you for the research. Its great how I am bumping into heaps of descendents of the brother John and William Wheeldon. Any questions you have or any questions you have of me I will do my best to help. I didn't really start researching family history until I got to the age of 35 and then my curiousity started to kick in. The more I got into it the more I learnt and the more research I had to do. It sort of 'snowballs' doesn't it!

Cheers,

Kate J.

Hi Patricia,

I noticed on Ancestry that you have William J. Day born 1856
in Egerton, Kent, England. William J. Day was my great
grandfather. His father was William Day born 1814-1815 and
his mother was Caroline born about 1819. William J. Day
married Amelia Heathfield. Is this the same family as
yours? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gloria

Henry Winson (born 19.9.1841) remarried to Mary Ann Wheeldon in 1892. She was the sister of my great grandfather. They had a child, George Thomas in 1897 and were living in Tibshelf on the 1901 census. On the 1911 census they were living in Hardwick Street, Tibshelf with George and 2 boarders. I think Henry died in 1914 and Mary in 1915.

Hi,

I am a second great grandnephew of Jane Maria Colemoss. I do have James Bwn showing in my family tree, born 18 November 1880, in Whangamata, but nothing beyond that. Have information on the Colemoss/Moorfoot family dating back to her father James Colemoss, born 5 April 1806, in Heneor, Derby, England, and her mother Mary Moorfoot, born 31 March 1811, in Beverley, Yorkshire, England. Also have information on their seven (7) children, plus descendants in New Zealand and Australia.

Would be glad to provide additionainformation on request, including the inquest of James Cole(moss), and his life in New Zealand.

I live in the USA, (since 1959), but have made several trips back to NZ, to see family and do research. Would be glad to provide aditional information, or you could contact my first cousin, Brian Holden, who lives in Auckland, poppa@xtra.co.nz We have both been working on the tree for many years, and routinely exchange GEDCOM files, so we have the same information.

Mary Colemoss (Jane Maria's sister, m. William Kerin Foster.
Their daughter Frances (Fanny) Foster, married William John Reddy.
Their daughter, Mary Catherine Reddy, married Francis Henry McCormick, and this couple were my grandparents.

The Thames/Coromandel area is crawling with descendants, including, Foster, Louden, Geard, McCormick, Reddy, Holden and other surnames. As you drive north from Thames, various branches of the family lived in the small towns, including Matatoki, Puriri, Tararu, Whakatete Bay, Ngarimu Bay, Thornton's Bay, Tapu, Kereta, Coromandel, etc. Obviously, a lot of these branches can be very distant relatives.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Alan McGuiness

Obituary did not list the brothers names. Listed that he was born in Derbyshire in 1816. There he engaged in the manufacture of dry goods and began preaching in September 1835. He came to America in 1846. He lived in Philadelphia and preached at the Eastern Penitentiary for 25 years. Three daughters, three grandsons, one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.

Im not even sure how he is related to my in-laws other than my mother-in-law's middle name was Marsden. Found the obituary among her memorabilia.

Haven't done much research since I don't have access to the English records.
I can't count how many times I walked along Shaftesbury Crescent on my way to the football match. Like the surrounding streets it was made up of terraced houses and the occasional corner shop. It's completely altered now because the Baseball Ground, (where football was played after the first two years of its existence), has gone. Lots of pictures can be found on this site:

www.picturethepast.org.uk

It's run by the local councils and museums. If you ever visit Derby, be sure to visit the Local Studies Library. You'll find a wealth of information there.
