Looking for Sanders and Delamotte

Hello, I'm trying to find out when the John Sanders family moved to Plymouth from Melcombe Regis,Dorset. They were still in Dorset in 1901.

Also any information of the Delamotte family would be useful. Mary Ann Delamotte was born in 1823. Her father was Henry Digby Cotes Delamotte born 1801 but I can't get further back.

Hi,
I recently did some research on the Delamotte family for a friend of mine. Your Henry was the brother of William Alfred Delamotte who became a famous water colour artist of the 19th Century. (Williams' paintings sell today for several £000's each which is why my friend is interested). Henry was 1 of 15 children born to Peter Delamotte and Mary Ann Gage. The family lived in Weymouth for many years and then moved to Oxford when Peter became ill. Henry, the youngest child, became a Medical Surgeon as well as Swanages'registrar for BMD at the time. William the painter had 9 children and 3 of them became famous artists.William was professor of Drawing at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst for 40 years.
The family is interesting because they can be traced back to the late 1500's when Philippe De La Motte , a Huguenot, escape from Tournai and settled in Southampton. I have found several references to the family on the internet and IGI which paints a very interesting picture of the family from the late 16th Century.
Let me know if you want any further info.

Hello Roger,
I was in contact with you last year regarding the Delamotte family, and in particular, Henry Digby Cotes Delamotte's second marriage in 1837, to Charlotte Haysom.

I have further information on Helen Jane Delamotte, the 3rd child of this marriage, and her marriage to Count Libri Guglielmo Bruto Icilio Timoleone. Not sure whether you already have this or not. Would be please to share it.

regards
Jean Jane

Hi Jean,
Thanks for your note and your offer of info. I was at the "who do you think you are" exhibition in Olympia in May and picked up a very good pamphlet about the Delamottes from The Huguenot Society. Will send you a note to your E-mail address listed on the Ancestry site to give you more details.
Roger

Hi Roger - just read this with interest. I too am a direct descendent of the Delamotte family - George Orleans Delamotte was my grandmother's great grandfather. I only live "down the road" from you in Briton Ferry. Do you have any further info to pass on? Would be very interested in anything you have please. Wonder if I am related to that friend of yours?

Hi Judith,
I haven't done any Delamotte research for over a year but did exchange a lot of info with a lady called Jane. She is one of the people you will see on ancestry interested in above subject. My friend had no connection with the Delamottes other than he was interested in the paintings and lives of the family, particulary william Delamotte.
There was a lecture on the work of George Orleon Delamotte at the Royal Institute of South Wales in Swansea museum earlier this year. There are quite a number of George's paintings in Swansea museum as he lived and painted in this area during the early 1800's. The lecturer, Bernard Morris, a local historian, has published a book on the paintings which us available at the museum bookshop.
When I was researching the Delamottes, I found a Bertha Delamotte aged 15 in Briton Ferry in the 1841 Census. She was not born in Glam so may well have been one of George's family.
George appeared in the 1841 census living in Bucks and again in 1861 living in Deptford.
Hope this is of interest to you
Regards

Hi there,

My connection to the Delamotte family is when Henry Digby Cotes Delamotte married [for the second time] Charlotte HAYSOM. Charlotte was 20 years his junior and went on to have 10 children to add to the 7 from his first marriage to Ruth MARTEN.

If I have my calcultions right, your George Orleans was an elder brother to my Henry Digby. I have some information on this marriage, and its children, that might be of interest to you.

If you would like to contact me on jeanjane2007@gmail.com I would be happy to pass it on.

Regards
Jean

Are you referring to a John Sanders who married a Lavinia or his father? I am related to the family of John Snr and have done much of the family tree for that side of the family and live only 45 minutes from Weymouth/Melcombe. Would gladly swap info. If this is your family do you have any information about the apparent family rift prior to John Snr's death please?

Becky Sanders
