The records show Peverils owned Bradford Peveri from 1273 we would love to know more about when and how it was founded. Church records show Churchills in the same area and time frame. Happy to share.

You are right not much response to the area. My note has been up a year and yours is the first reply. First let me say there are Churchill graves in the little church at Bradford-Peveril. They are mentioned on the Visitation Lists on the Net too. Peveril connects to Meggs when Lawrence Meggs m the dau and only heir of the Peverils. On down that line Meggs, John Edward m Mary Jane Meggs (JED was the navigator for Ross in his antartic exploration). Family lore says Peveril and Churchills had marriages early in Dorset history but I haven't found them yet. Notice the new e-mail for me. Post privately and I will give you what I have that could help you find your line. Ginny in WY

I was interested to see your message as I cannot find anyone else who is researching from England, especially in Dorset. I have been trying to trace my fathers line - Churchills - in and around the Dorset area. If you have any info. this may help the last entry I have is William b.abt 1748 m. sarah, son James b.1791. I think william's father may have been another William or John, but I have been having difficulty verifing this.

I am and English Churchill researcher. I have upwards of 900 Dorset Churchills in the 16th and 17th centuries with a few to the 18th century and only one modern line extending to the present time. Most are associated with the Colliton line. I do have the Marlborough Churchill line (Spencer-Churchills) but don’t have the William Churchill you mention. I am very interested in your William.

The connection to the Peverells of Bradford Peverell is interesting. I am aware of the marriage of a Roger Churchill of the Marlborough Churchill line with a Jane Peverell but she was from Bradford, Devon and not Bradford-Peverell Dorset according to my information.

I will contact you off-line.

I am looking for someone who is researching the Churchill family in Somerset. I Have a line beginning with Tristram Churchill bu July 21, 1673 and his wife Alice Chilton bu March 3,1674/75. They were married Oct. 1, 1632 in Bruton and were buried in Bruton, Somerset, England.

This line continues in Bruton until about 1821.

I am aware of the marriage but have no information on the origin of this Tristram.

I have assumed Tristram is a family name. Do you know the origin of the name Tristram?

I have a fairly extensive listing of 17th century Devon Churchills and what I believe is a comprehensive listing of the 17th century Dorset Churchills. But these listings give no clue as to Tristram’s origin.

I note that the Tristram family seems concentrated in the East country of England. Off the cuff, but based on this, I would suggest searching 17th century OXON/BUCKS/MDX Churchills as a possible origin of Tristram. Sorry, not much help.

You are a descendant of this Tristram?

I believe that I am a descendant of Tristram Churchill about 11 generations down the line. Most of the action in this line is in Bruton but there are some marriages outside Bruton that we haven't found yet. One Churchill, named James Churchill, who married Mary Ashford in Bruton on May 16, 1763, is listed as of Preston, I assume in Wiltshire, when he was married.

The Churchill name seems to run out in Bruton, in the early 1800's with a family of females. I descend from one of those females who married a Wilton in 1809. We've kept the Wilton name going to the present.

Can you point me to any one who is researching Churchill Family in Somerset/Wiltshire? Can you point me to written source material on this topic? Would you be interested in seeing my tree?

Ross.
