Hi - does anyone know why the Dorset OPC website is down just now? i.e. www.opcdorset.com . I just keep getting "Server not found" error! Strange.

thanks

Seems to be working fine as far as I can tell.

Jon,
I have been having the same problem for nearly six months. After contacting my ISP here in Australia (TPG), I was told by their webmaster that it is a technical problem with the settings of the OPC Dorset site. TPG's webmaster has contacted the OPC Dorset technical people but there has been no resolution to the problem yet.

Very frustrating as I have a few Dorset lines I need to check on and can't. The Sussex OPC site has the same problems for me.

Paul

Interesting, if your ISP was able to contact the "OPC Dorset technical people" he is a better man than me Gunga Din. Have been unable to get any technical support for many months. At some point in the not too distant future I will need to move to another host, but at the moment while it is still working I am delaying that. The site is still getting hundreds of visits per day, so if I were you I would pursue this with your ISP further as the problem is in reality more likely their end.

Drop me a mail if there is any specific information you are looking for, dorset.opc@vectisjon.com

Cheers
Jon Baker

Hi Jon and thanks for your reply.

I don't know whether my ISP has had any reply to his email to your technical people. I do know that other TPG users have the same problem with the OPC Dorset site. In reading my ISP's email to your technical people that he copied me, his explanation to them about what he thought the problem was at your end seemed very reasonable.

I remember having the same problem with part of the Scotland Genealogy website a while back which they eventually resolved.

Thank you very much for your offer to help with any specific information I need, I'll get the details together and send to you.

Regards, Paul

Should also add that there is no technical connection between the Dorset and Sussex OPC sites, they are hosted completely separately and maintained by completely different people, so the fact that you are having the same problem with both would suggest that your ISP is the root cause of the issue you are having, otherwise it would be a massive coincidence.

It must be TPG blocking access to both the Dorset and Sussex OPC sites.

I'm in Melbourne and on Optusnet and have no problems accessing both sites. Just been into the Dorset site to look up some information.

I'll cross TPG off my list of possible ISP's now when I need to change.

I get the same problem with the Somerset OPC (www.wsom-opc.org.uk) - really frustrating.
Have contacted my ISP and will post results if I find out what causes the problem.
