I am trying to find the birth details for Henry Cox. He was married to Caroline Pope 13 Sep 1873 in the Parish Church Wimborne Minster. According to their marriage certificate his father was John Cox. They had a daughter Rosa Matilda born 1876. I think Henry died 1888. According to the 1881 census (in which they are down as Con!!) Henry was born in Wimborne Dorset.

Can awyone help please as I am at my wits end!

A Henry Cox birth was registered in Wimborne in the June quarter of 1851, reference VIII 182 - the 182 is faint on the page I saw on the web but I think that it is right.

I have found the death registration of a Henry Cox in the December quarter of 1888 in Wimborne at the age of 38 Reference:Wimborne 5a 167.

Many thanks for that, but I have checked that one out and the father was NOT John Cox. I have also sent for the Vol 8 Page 156 birth but that had Joseph Cox as the father.

I have that one thanks. I know his wife remarried to a chap called William Bailey on 2 July 1890. Al the census data ties up; I just can not find his correct birth data.

The 1881 census on the Mormon site and the 1881 census on FindMyPast both have Henry COX (not CON) age 36 born Farnham, Dorset and wife Catherine 36 born Hermitage, Dorset. They are living with their family in Farnham, which is in sub-district Cranborne, Registration District Wimborne.

Many thanks for that, but Henry's wife was Caroline not Catherine, therefore I do not think that is the right one, but well worth a look.

1881 census definitely has the Family as 'Con'
Living in Somersetshire, also has Caroline as born 'Avon, Hampshire'

Many thanks for the detail Lyn. I already had thje 1881 & 1891 data for Henry & Caroline, but I did not have the 1881 Bailey census. The data I am looking for is the Birth for Henry Cox and his father John Cox.
