Hi,
I am trying to find details of my GGGG Grandfather. He was named Crosby Gray and was born in Botany Bay,Australia abt 1807.
Last records I have is 1881 census when he was living in Jarrow, Co Durham.
I assume he died and was buried in Jarrow area.
Hope you can help.
Cheers Ian

Hi Ian,

Crosby Gray was my GG Grandfather and although the census states he was born in Botany Bay Australia I think this is incorrect.....there is a place on the River Wear near to Washington and the Victoria Bridge that was once called locally "Botany Bay" I believe that it is no longer called by this name. Unfortunately I have been unable to find his parents but I'm working on it! Can I ask you how you are related to him? Kind Regards Janet.

Hello Ian
I am researching my own family tree, my grandfather was hilton gray- the son of george gray. George Gray was born in 1838, the son of Crosby Gray and Jane Oxberry. I am not sure that the Crosby Gray you are researching is the same person, although they all lived in Jarrow or Chatham
in Kent. I wuld be interested to know how you researched the Australian link.
Regards,
Diane Marshall

I am Paul Morris Hilton of New Brunswick, CANADA and I have connections to Durham Co., England via Hylton Castle and Washington Old House, which are next door to each other. If you contact the SUNDERLAND LIBRARY SYSTEM, they will probably help you out or give you a possible connection to the folks you are looking for. I will look in my files and see if I have any data on these fol;ks for you. i would also like to know of the Hilton Gray and from whom he may have received his given name and if he might be possibly connected to me. I will get back to you if I can locate any data. Thanks very much for the chance to do some further research. Sincerely Yours, Paul
