From information from my grandfather, the
Upson Bookers were tinkers. I know they spent a lot of time in Eckington,
Derbyshire, which is very close to
Sheffield,
Yorkshire.
Family legend says that John
Upson Booker was responsible for the death of a gamekeeper and had to "disappear" to
Wales for a while, then came back ot
Yorkshire as an
Upson, but we haven't found anything to substantiate this. Nor do we have a timeframe.
What we do know is that the family for a while was known as
Upson Booker, then reverted back to
Upson.
Does anyone have any leads for us???
