Trying to trace Horace Gifford and his 13 child family. Born about 1870 Barker's Hall, lived in Guilford, Surrey for the last few years of his life. Died in the Eastern Hospital, Hackney, London around 1915.

Several children emigrated before 1912. Wife was Mary Ann Dolton, b. about 1870 County Kildare, Ireland. My mother-in-law was the youngest and never knew several of her siblings and does not remember their names. (She's entitled to forget a bit, she just turned 92)

Can't be sure this is your family - but I checked the 1901 Census and could not find a Horace that matched your Horace - a possibility that he may have been at the Boer War. Taking that into consideration I checked for a Mary Gifford born Ireland as head of family who was listed as married and found the family below. Did find Horace on the 1881 Census with his parents Joseph & Mary Ann, siblings & an Uncles - Dwelling: Barking Hall - census place: Thorpe Essex. Hope this helpful

Hi, I am a direct descendant of Laura Gifford, older sister to Horace. Laura was my great grandmother. I don't have much info on the Giffords other than her father was Joseph (b. abt. 1822), and her paternal grandfather was John (b. abt. 1786). Nonetheless, we must be cousins!

Actually, you would be a cousin of my wife. I do have some information on the Giffords, but I have not been able to track down all Horace's children. There were 13 of them and I have information on 7. My m-i-l never knew all her siblings. She was the youngest and at least one had immigrated to Australia before she was born.
