I am not 100% convinced that the Joseph
Swan found by Susan is the correct Joseph, although I cannot see an alternative.
In 1861 your Joseph was said to be 28 b. Wimbish and living with wife Martha 20, b. Thaxted. In 1841 I can see two
Josephs living in
Wimbish Green, a 4 year old, the son of James & Rebecca and the 11 year old with John & Mary. In 1851 only one can be found, he is 16 and a farm Labourer living with George
Ruse and his family at Jenkinhogs Farm Radwinter, (which is literally on the border with
Wimbish Green). Which one is this? If you look for the families James & Rebecca are still in
Wimbish but no Joseph. John has died and Mary has remarried a John
Taylor and they are living in
Wimbish with 3
Swann sons, George 24, John 17, who match the 1841 census and a JOB 22, Is he the elder Joseph?, I think so. So the 16 year old should be the younger
Does Job 22
Marry Martha and become Joseph again in 1861 but only ageing a further 6 years?
The younger Joseph marries a Lydia and is living at Chrishall
Grange in 1861 age 24 and they are in
Wiltshire in 1871.
Come 1871 Joseph has died and Martha is living with a John
Surrey at
Wimbish Green. Did they marry? this couple appear in my family tree and I had not got a marriage and did not know Martha's maiden name, you have given it to me, thank you very much.
Going back is the Joseph
Swan that married Martha the son of John & Mary. You will either have to buy the certificate or look up the entry in the parish register where they married to find out. Regarding Joseph's age, his death certificate should have this on it.
