I have a cousin Sidney Clark in my family tree, born 1901-1902 in Southchurch, Essex. His parents were James & Minnie (nee Dean) Clark. I don't have any wife or children for him. Do you think this is a connection?

Jan

Census entry of Dudness, Essex - where is it?

Hi. My ancestor is Elizabeth Roast(b 1827, m James Denton 1850), clearly described on two census entries as born in Dudness, Essex, and in another as from South Weald.

I can't find any such place. Others have suggested Dungeness to me, in Kent but that doesn't really fit - and there are no other Roasts in Kent.

Anyone know where it could be?

Born abt. 1850 Ipswich Suffolk she married Henry Nattrass and died in Barking Essex, England. Some breakthrough particularly in determining the correct name would be great.

From information from my grandfather, the Upson Bookers were tinkers. I know they spent a lot of time in Eckington, Derbyshire, which is very close to Sheffield, Yorkshire.
Family legend says that John Upson Booker was responsible for the death of a gamekeeper and had to "disappear" to Wales for a while, then came back ot Yorkshire as an Upson, but we haven't found anything to substantiate this. Nor do we have a timeframe.
What we do know is that the family for a while was known as Upson Booker, then reverted back to Upson.
Does anyone have any leads for us???
Thanks
Lorraine

I don't have any information about Lilian Albiston's children, and not a great deal about her family apart from her birth in 1889 in Bethnal Green and her marriage to my ancestor, Robert Oatham in 1908 (his grandfather's brother was the Henry Oatham above). I have not verified the year of birth from National Archives. She is known as Lily on the 1891 and 1901 census. She probably had 7 siblings: Samuel, Alfred, George, Herbert, Daisy, Horace and Violet. She was the eldest girl. Her parents were Samuel (a tin japanner) and Elizabeth, both born in Bethnal Green.

Samuel's parents were born in Wolverhampton. He was also a japanner. He had several other children apart from Lily's father, some born in Wolverhampton, some in BG. As far as I know HIS father, also Samuel was born around 1780 and was also a japanner.

Let me know if you want any further information about the Oatham family.

Hi, I am a direct descendant of Laura Gifford, older sister to Horace. Laura was my great grandmother. I don't have much info on the Giffords other than her father was Joseph (b. abt. 1822), and her paternal grandfather was John (b. abt. 1786). Nonetheless, we must be cousins!

Chris

skilton@earthlink.net

Hi Colin:

Thanks for contacting me concerning the 'Reynolds' records from the Church of St. Mary, in Hatfield Broad Oak, Essex Co.

I was seeking further information on my 3rd g. grandmother, Jane Reynolds. If you have any further details about her, I would appreciate the data. I understood that Jane Reynolds was born circa 1835 in Hatfield Broad Oak, being the daughter of James Reynolds (mother not known). Jane Reynolds later married Peter Cook at the church on October 12, 1850.

If you have a baptismal date for Jane Reynolds, this would confirm her birth as well as her parent's names. Perhaps, you may also have details about her father, James Reynolds etc. etc.

Thanks again for your assistance and interest.

Regards,
Kevin.

Hello Barry and thank you for your response to my message.
I am researching my father's footsteps in Braintree.
He was born at no. 64 South Street.
If the factory is no. 68, then it could be that the Dutch House is no. 64 and 66 as I have been told that it is two cottages. Cannot confirm this though!
I would love to see the two photographs you have if at all possible. That would be very kind of you.

regards, Patricia

Joseph Harrison. Henham Independent Chapel, Essex

Hello,

As I live in Australia can someone please lookup a record at the Essex Records Office?

The catalogue reference is D/NC 36/1 and relates to the records of Henham Independent Chapel 1806-1837 (one volume).

I am looking for any information on Joseph Harrison who was a schoolmaster at the Henham Independent Chapel from around 1806-1812. He may have acted as the minister during this time. His wife was Sally Harrison and he had at least two sons born there: Joseph and Massah.

It is rumoured that he was ejected from the Chapel for taking liberties with one of his female pupils.

Joseph later became involved in the Radical Reform movement at Stockport and was arrested for sedition.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Anthony
