Was wondering if anyone has actually ordered and received a death record. If so, does it give the parents names or spouses name, and also does it give the reason for death? Am looking for the reason a great great grandfather died. Its listd in Dec 1869 and his name was Joseph Silcox. Thanks.

Hi

Avery good place to find out all about English certificates and what they contain is
http://www.thosedixons.net/certificates/indexbmd.html

This is written by a registrar

But basically an English death cert of the perid gives name, place of death, age. occupation and cause of death. There will also be the name of the person who registered the death

Bear in mind that the person who gave the information may not be that wel acquainted with the deceased so may not know the exact age

The website gives you some insights into what may or may not be correct on a certificate

Wendy,

Death cert's, as you've been told give very little useful information and even the cause of death is not always very good.

As Joseph's death was registered in the Reg. Dist. of Bedminster which spans the SOM/GLS border, I suggest you try SOM and if you're very lucky, a family member there might know more.

Regards

O

Thanks so much for the response, but I'm lost on the SOM/GLS border. What is that? There was a family story that he was killed in a mine accident. Do you know how I would find that out? Thanks again. Wendy

Wendy,

SOM? GLS?

Check the Vol number at freebmd for whereabouts of Bedminster Reg. Dist.

You will find the parish locator prog useful and its database contains the Chapman County code. Go to http://www.parloc.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/parlocdl.html

Wendy,

If you go to http://www.old-maps.co.uk/index.htm and look around a 100 year old map of Bedminster you'll see there were coal mines in the middle of the place.
