Would anyone be able to do a look up of parish records. I have gone back as far as JOHN WINNIATT (Wynniatt?) who married Susanna Payne in 1691 in Snowshill, Glos. John was born c1670 - not entirely sure where, but assuming Snowshill. I am looking for some connection with the Wynniatt's in Dymock.
Many thanks

Hello-

I'm told that Mary LASBURY d. 1875 and Elizabeth NORMAN d. 1920s and her husband Edwin George NORMAN d. 1903 are buried at Arnos Vale Cemetery in Bristol. Would anyone have access to a cemetery index or records to confirm this? I'd also be interested in any other LASBURY's buried there. Also, does anyone know of a volunteer who would take a digital picture of these graves. I live in the U.S. and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Gordon,

While browsing I found your message about the Wynniatt family. I have quite an interest in the family as my name is Winnett. Several Wynniatt families in the past "evolved" into Winnett families.

I have a website devoted to this research: www.winnettorigins.com

Part of my research also involves using DNA studies to link families, which has been of great use so far. I would be very grateful if you (or other relatives) would consider joining the DNA project - details on the website.

In the meantime, I will see if I can shed any further light on your ancestry from details I have.

Regards,

Andrew Winnett
London

(Gloucestershire)

I am trying to find info. on the circumstances in which my ancestors Meadows came to the village of
Longborough from Ireland around 1700 & were able to become tenant farmers on arrival. They may
have been tennants of the Shuckboroughs or some other landowners. Any lead from Glos. Ireland or
whatever would be useful. They do not appear to be related to the Gloucester Meadows family.

In searching the name Gyford, I came up with their marriage in Dover, Kent in March Quarter 1895. In 1901 census there is a Samuel Gyford age 24, born Suffolk, Bedfield Butcher and Grocers Porter - This Samuel is the right age but there is no Emily listed. In October 1902 Emily has a son born at 31 Herbert Street Bristol so she had not died and lists Samuel as a soldier. . A search on 31 Herbert St. Stapleton and/or Bristol came up with nothing.
Can anyone shed any light on Emily or Samuel Gyford? or 31 Herbert St.?
I'm wondering if there is a mystery brewing.
Brenda Edmonds, St. Thomas Ontario Canada

Well Shirley we are related, how exciting! I am new to this but I can tell you a little of my background. My maiden name is Holder. My father was Leslie Owen Victor Edward Holder (bit of mouthful)born 1902 and died 1987. He was one of 12 children. His father was William Holder one of 7 siblings Brother to your Great Grandmother and Grandfather to me. He was Born about 1864 - died 1947. He married Lizzie T Collett (my Grandmother)born 1864 - 1944. Williams fathers was John Holder born 1803 died 1900 he married Fanny Maria Russell born 1828 Snowhill and died 1917. They lived in Paper Mill Farm Stanway Gloucestershire - a truly beautiful Cotswold village - I was there 2 weeks ago and found the graves of Sarah Ann died 16/04/1904 of Paper Mill Farm aged 38 yrs AND your Great Grandmother died 3/11/1917 (89 yrs) and John 27/04/1874 18 yrs. I haven't taken photos yet as the battery of my camera decided to play up. fuelled by this find I went to a place called Bishops Cleeve and found several graves stones of the Holders. Mainly JOhn HOlder Fanny's husband and 4 of his sisters Sarah Ann Elizabeth and Jane. I am still in the process of compiling all these records. Its all very confusing as they mostly called Sarah, John William Ann and Elizabeth.
Regards

Helen Kenneally

They would be born prior to censuses, probably in the 1750s and 60s. There is info from the Horfield parish church online that one of their daughters Isabella is buried in the churchyard, died aged 3 yrs 2mths in 1763.
John Shadwell snr died in Brussels in 1777 and was Lord of the manor of Horfield. His son John took over, followed by another son Richard. Isabella Shadwell nee Mitchell died in Bristol in 1815 aged 85.
So that is 3 of their children I know of. Just want to confirm Thomas Mitchell Shadwell is another one.

Alfred Edward Hatton born in Coleford, Glos. in 1837

I am related to this family. My g grandfather was Alfred Edward Hatton born in Coleford, Glos. in 1837. His father was John Hatton (Tailor & Draper) b. 1800 who married Harriet Horton. John's father was Thomas Hatton b. 1767 in Quenington and he married Jane? (not from Glos.)

Thomas was the eldest son of Edward Hatton & Hannah (Anna) Edgington (Edgerton)m. in Quenington in 1766. He was born in 1745 and Hannah born in 1743 in Quenington.

Thomas Hatton (Tailor & Draper) bapt. 21 July 1767 Quenington who married Jane b. 1768. They also had a daughter named Jane Hatton b. 11 November 1804 Coleford. All the rest is correct i.e. Thomas & John's father Edward Hatton b. 6 January 1745 in Quenington (Papermaker) & married on 23 Nov. 1766 Hannah (Anna) Edgerton bap. 26 June 1743 Quenington. Hannah had a sister Elizabeth bap. 20 Oct. 1736 Quenington & their father was David Edgington md. Mary Rodoway 1 November 1734, Quenington, Gloucester.

I cannot get back any further however I believe Edward's father would have been named Thomas Hatton or John Hatton as he called his first 2 sons Thomas & John. The rest of the children are:
Thomas Hatton b.1767 Quenington (My ggg grandfather)
Ann Hatton b. 1769;
Edward Hatton b. 1771;
John Hatton b. 1772;
Hannah Hatton b. 1773;
Paul Hatton b. 1776;
Peter Hatton b. 1779;
David Hatton b. 1782 Quenington d. 7 Oct. 1841 Newland Age 59( married 6 Dec. 1814, Diana West b. 1775 of Quenington & they owned the Newland Inn). Their son was John Hatton bapt. 10 Sept. 1816 died 17 Dec.1887 - Surgeon of Haverford West. (Cousin of my gggrandfather John Hatton. On his death certificate "Thomas John" was present. Death certificate lists his death (17 December 1887)at Goat Street, St. Mary, Haverford-west, County of Penbroke. Age 71 years. He married a Maria and had the following children: Fanny b. abt 1842; Kate: b. abt. 1844; Florence b. abt. 1847 All in Coleford.

Newland Village 1851 Census
Diana Hatton widow of David Hatton d. aed 76 innkeeper born Bloomfield, Somerset.
Harriet Hatton Servant un. 57 House Servant b. quenington.
( Harriet Hatton b. 1793 to Hannah Hatton bap. 1773 Quenington (daughter of Edward & Hannah Hatton)).

The Hatton's also owned the White Hart Inn and the Newland Inn.

My g grandfather Alfred came to Australia and had several children of whom the eldest son Edward Alfred Hatton was my grandfather and his son Stanley Hatton was my father.

If anyone can throw some light on Edward Hatton's father it would be appreciated.

Regards,

Kerrie McInnes (nee Hatton)
Lesley,

Try the Hugh Wallis site at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis... but change the Horfield batch number prefix from M to C after entering the surname in the appropriate box of course!

Then put the HW site in your favourites.

Regards

O

Wendy,

SOM? GLS?

Check the Vol number at freebmd for whereabouts of Bedminster Reg. Dist.

You will find the parish locator prog useful and its database contains the Chapman County code. Go to http://www.parloc.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/parlocdl.html

Regards

O

Wendy,

Death cert's, as you've been told give very little useful information and even the cause of death is not always very good.

As Joseph's death was registered in the Reg. Dist. of Bedminster which spans the SOM/GLS border, I suggest you try SOM and if you're very lucky, a family member there might know more.

Regards

O

Anne,

P.S.

The Mormon leaders teach that the spirits of people who have died cannot enter the celestial kingdom of heaven until a Mormon is baptized for them by proxy-i.e. a living person is immersed on behalf of the dead person.

When a batch entry extracted from church records is identified by an LDS member as being one of his/her ancestors, the member submits the data to the Temple in Salt Lake City and in accordance with LDS ordinances the proxy baptism is carried out.

The entry in the batch is then deleted.

Alas, the foregoing does not mean that all submitted entries in the IGI were once in an extracted batch so submitted entries must be disregarded. The LDS give no provenance of submitted entries.

The Source Call number given with extracted entries is the LDS film of the church records which may be hired and searched at an LDS FHC in order to verify, or otherwise, the submitted data.

Regards

O
