Benjamin Kiddell and his wife, Elizabeth Eveleigh, lived near the city of Bristol in the late 1700's. they were the parents of five known children. Their children were Benjamin, Caroline(a), Samuel, Charles, and Thomas. All five of these children, and their father, were mentioned in the Will of their grandfather, George Eveleigh, who died in Bristol in 1792. One of the children, Benjamin, is known to have been christened at Lewins Mead Presbyterian (or Unitarian), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England (IGI record) Oct. 5, 1769. Another, Samuel, christened at Lewins Mead Nov. 28, 1770. Any info on this family and their children, descendants, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Will be delighted to share info.

John William Burfoot - b.1879 - Camberwell

My grandfather was John William Burfoot b.1879 in Peckham. Occupation was a 'well-borer'. His first marriage was to Hannah Florence Louisa Palmer in Dulwich Village January 1899. Hannah died. Children unknown. But 3 names have been mentioned to me. Frank (Frankie), George and Elsie. My grandfather John William, remarried to Rosina Lily Callow in 1918. Children, Beatrice Rosina, John Edward (my father) b. 1920 and Edith Victoria. My grandfather had two brothers both born in Peckham. David John William b. 1875 and Frederick Charles b. 1872. Names of spouses are not known to me, nor details of any children. Can anyone help with these names please? Also I believe Elizabeth Rebecca Francis Maria Burfoot, b. 1882 could be a sister to my grandfather and his other brothers. Their father was David William Burfoot (my great-grandfather) b. 1840 in Plumstead Village. He married Elizabeth Robson on 29 May 1871 in Camberwell. Nothing is known about his (my great-grandfather's) brothers, sisters or parents. I am particularly interested to know if any twins are known to have born in any of these families. Most of my family of Burfoots come so far from Cambwell, Peckham, Dulwich, in addition to Plumstead Village. There were many more born around this time in Lewisham and Greenwich. At this point have no idea if any of these are linked to my line. Any information welcomed.
I am seeking info regarding our family's possible connection to Gloucestershire. Have found some leads that point to my family coming from that area, arriving in Virginia,USA by mid 1660's.
There is a possible free anonymous DNA testing available for any male Holders in the UK- this would help confirm our research.
The Holders in The US have started a DNA database to help us track the family connections.
My branch of the Holders have an interesting history and I am more than willing to share several years worth of research. Example: one line had accompanied Daniel Boone westward, and the book and movie "Last of the Mohicans"
was based largely on actual events. Our extended family had several dozen members at Gettysburg, on both sides of the conflict.
Any info would be appreciated. gl_fulton@yahoo.com

Looking for information on this family who used to live in the Mina Road area of St. Werburghs. The Hayers women were Hawkers and the men mostly Dockers or Seamen. The name does not appear often in the Bristol Censuses for 1891 and 1881. I am particularly interested in the names existance in the 1861 census. I believe the family came from outside of the Bristol area. In particular Henry (Harry) Hayers and his wife Elizabeth who were noted in the 1881 census as living in Burges Court, St. Philip and St. Jacob

I am from Australia and would like to know the whereabouts of Isgars that may be related to us.
Basically I am trying to find where many of the Isgars originated from.
Ours are in the 1881 Census but there is a twist to our family where the father of James Isgar that is stated was originally Herbert James Isgar Coles Father being James Coles.
Somewhere a James Coles married an Isgar then this Herbert resumed his name and life style under the name of James Isgar.
His mother's side must have played an important role for Herbert to change his identity .This family I talk about here was from Bath Somerset region.
We since have found a marriage relating to this family from Bristol in 1844 but nothing further.
If there is any possible leads that you may suggest I search I would be interested in hearing from you?

Ernest Bond

In 1903 a boy of 6 featured in The Motor Car Journal as "the youngest motor cyclist in the country". The 'motor cycle' in question was made by his father, James Bond, of Bishopston, Bristol.

The 1901 census shows the following: 186 Gloucester Road,
James Bond, age 31, Cycle Maker, self employed, working at home, born Somerset - Durston
Mary A. Bond, wife, age 35, born Wiltshire - Newton Toney
Ernest, J. R. Bond, age 4, born Bristol.

Sadly the family does not appear to be in Bristol after WW1. Does anyone know what became of Ernest? Sadly perhaps he lost his life in the Great War but I can find no absolute proof of this.

Wondering if anyone can assist me in obtaining birth certificates, and possibly marraige record of ancestors from Gloustershire area. Abraham Barnes (born abt. 1830) married a "Mary???" (No maiden surname)- They had children: Jane,James,Rachel. Abraham had a brother: George Barnes. Abraham was living with his brother George in one of the census'. I know that Abraham worked at Pindrup farms at age 18, (the 1851 census)!Would love to get any birth/marriage records/certificates and more information!! Possibly the name of Abraham's wife's maiden name on one of the census'. I know brother Abe's brother, George also married a woman named "Mary". Any assistance is appreciated.
Thanks!
Hi

How do i find out more information from a person found in the electoral register?

I went to the archives yesterday & found the Johnston family i was looking for, however i am unsure on how to go to the next step of finding more info about them. I do not have their DOB but would guess that it is somewhere between 1923-1930? I am unsure of where they were born & i would be guessing at gloucestershire my thinking behind this is i know that they did live there in 1947-1950.

Any help much appreciated

Many thanks

I am descended from John MILES II who married Mary GOUGH around 1700 in Maryland. Mary GOUGH was the daughter of Stephen GOUGH and Clare BALDWIN and the sister of James, Benjamin and Monica GOUGH. Benjamin GOUGH had land in "Beaverdam Manor". I have been told there is a possible link between this family and a William GOUGH of Glouster. I've searched for info on this Gloustershire family, which is supposed to be famous, without success. Webtv is having trouble accessing familysearch.org so I can't check the IGI.
Anyone with info about GOUGH's in Glouster in the 17th century who may have had relatives or descendants who went to Lord Baltimore's colony of Maryland please contact me.

William Thomas Harrison, b abt.1883 Bristol

I'd love to hear from anyone with links to the following family.

William Thomas Harrison, born abt.1883, don't know where. Son of Alfred Harrison. Married 1915 to Elsie Louisa Turner in Bristol and they had 3 children: Cecil, Dennis and Lilah. Elsie died in childbirth in 1921 and the 3 kids were admitted to Bristol orphanage in 1921 (we've sent off for the records from the orphanage). He died before 1937, but I don't know when/where. His occupation was a groom/stableman.

I don't know where William was born so can't place him on census records. He served in the 15th Hussars (Private 16337)and the Royal Engineers (367952), entering France on 18/10/1915. He survived the war and was discharged to the reserves on 27/4/1919.

I don't yet know anything about his daughter Lilah, but here's what I know about his two sons:

Cecil William Harrison, b.1915 Bristol, m.1937 at Porthleven, Cornwall, to May Eastlake. One daughter; Margerita Faith Harrison, b.1938. He died 1944 in a motorbike crash serving as a dispatch rider. He's buried at Porthleven/Helston and is shown on the Porthleven War Memorial.

Dennis George Harrison (my grandfather), b.1917 Bristol, m.1942 to Florence Dale in Stafford, and died in 1974. One son, Dennis Frank Harrison.

I am researching the family History. Nicholas Hathaway came to America in 1631 on the Blessing...it appears that his father and his fathers father lived in Gloucestershire in the 1500s and before (depending on what you read, possibly can trace to the Constable of the Forrest of the Dean and to Monmouth Castle). I am planning another trip to England and would like to visit Gloucestershire.
1) Anyone possibly related? (would love to correspond, possibly meet?)
2) Recommend good history books to read/learn
3) Any other comments to help learn more about the family and the history of the area
Please email!

Hello,

I am researching my mother's side of the family, and she is a Davis. I've traced her line through Hampshire, India during the Mutiny, London, and finally to their farm in Fairford, Gloucestershire. John Davis born c1832 had the parents Joseph Davis and Elizabeth Taylor. I have found many birth records on the IGI for John's younger siblings, but nothing for John and his eldest sister, Charlotte, born c1834.

I cannot find a birth record that seems to match for Joseph Davis, John's father either. He was born c1812 in Fairford as well according to census records.

Is anyone familiar with this area? I know it is near Cirencester, and Bisley. Was it likely that Joseph and his two eldest children were 'born in Fairford' but Baptised in Cirencester (which has no records on the IGI unfortunately), or Bisley?

Thanks,

Mike

She was sentenced in 1835 in the Bristol Quarter Sessions for receiving stolen goods and was sentenced to seven years transportation to Australia. Later, in Australia, she married twice, the first time to Thomas Bishop and the second to my ancestor George Tickell. I am looking for any information on the family she left behind in England, in particular the name of her parents. Thanks in advance.

Hello

Would anybody be prepared to do a lookup for me when they're next at the Gloucestershire Record Office?

My ancestor Abraham Evans was baptised in Chedworth on 30th June 1833, the son of a William Evans and a Sophia (surname unknown). By the time he married in 1852 (in Shipton-under-Wychwood, Oxfordshire), he was a chair bottomer, but became a tinker after his marriage. He seemed to travel around a lot - one of his children being born in Hampshire - before settling in Buckinghamshire.

What I'm looking for is a record of William and Sophia's marriage. I have no idea whether it took place in Chedworth or even Gloucestershire, but I have to make assumptions in order to test assumptions. I think they may have had another son, Joseph, as a Joseph Evans appears on Abraham's marriage certificate, along with a Mary (I don't know whether she is Joseph's wife or sister)

I hope these scraps of information are enough to make a start. If anyone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it, as I have been stuck with this brick wall for some time now.

Thanks

Best Regards

Martin Harvey

Henry Ricketts, born about 1816

I am struggling to find any further information here: I am descended from a Henry Ricketts, born abt 1816 in Gloucestershire (town/parish unknown). He lived in France for a while, having two children born there in 1846 and 1848, and died probably not long after the 1851 census when he had been living in the Regent's Park area of London.

He probably had a brother called Thomas, born abt 1819, also in an unknown part of Gloucestershire who showed up as a boarder with Henry's ex-wife/widow in London in 1871.

His occupation was 'railway porter' in 1851. He may be on the 1841 census, also in London as a journeyman ironmonger. I cannot be certain that this is him though.

There doesn't appear to any sign of either Henry or Thomas on the 1841 census in Gloucestershire though.

My research into this family has found that Hannah Smith b.c. 1816, married John Simmons in 1842. They had three sons, James b.c. 1843, Thomas b. 1845 and John, b.c. 1848. I have birth certificate for Thomas, Hannah is listed as his mother. However, in 1851 Census, Hannah's sister, Emma (b.c. 1811) is recorded as John Simmons' wife. I can't find a death for Hannah nor a marriage for Emma and John. The family information I have is that both Hannah and Emma married John Simmons. I understand that it was not possible to marry one's late wife's sister so could be why I can't find a marriage. Is anyone else researching these families? Or can assist.
