I'm looking for Thomas Garment's father. I know Thomas Garment was born in 1808 in Gt Gaddesden and he later married Fanny (I don't know her maiden surname) and they had 5 children by 1851 and lived throughout Hertfordshire .

I'm also wondering if finding his father is possible since the 1811 census doesn't have any names?

The IGI has several entries for Thomas Garment,
Birth: 13 Sept.1811 Tring. Herts
Died: about 1885
Parents: James Garment and Elizabeth Judge
Married: Eliza ??, about 1832 Tring
She was born 30 Jun 183, Drayton, Hertford
and died 30 May 1882

1881 Census entry has them living in Tring with a son and daughter, Henry and Emma

My maiden name is Garment and my particular family tree extends from James bn 1773. From Charles, my tree follows William's lineage (my great grandfather).
Although I have evidence of James' marriage from the parish records I have been unable to find any records of his birth/baptism, please can you help.

I stumbled accross your message (written about 6years ago now) and was just wondering if you ever got any further back with the garment family? I understand at the time you were after Thomas Garments father who i believe is James Garment b1773 Tring d1850. As it happens I am searching for Thomas's brother John's family history and have got slightly stuck at James Garment. I cant find his father but have possibly found his grandfather. Anyway, if you happen to still use ancestry and have any information (or would like any information) please get in touch.

Wow, what a coincidence. I've recently taken up the cause again a few months ago, but have yet to find any hard evidence beyond Thomas Garment (b.1808 Gt. Gaddesden). I blindly sent a letter to each of the 3 listed Garments still in the area today; I only heard back from one, who was related to another Garment heritage I've been unable to incorporate into my tree.

I've only been able to make some educated guesses based on marriage licenses issued around the time of birth and assuming there wasn't any moves between counties. There was a marriage between a James Garment and Sarah Radwell in Gt. Gaddesden in 1804. There was also a marriage in 1782 between James Garment and Mary Aslin, who could have been the previously mentioned James' father (and Thomas' grandfather). Are we talking about the same James Garment though? But I'd love any information you may have.

The Thomas Garment I have was born abt 1811 and died abt 1892. The time of birth isnt far off your one. I have got his parents as being James Garment 1773-1850 and his mother as being Elizabeth Judge 1778-1850. They married in 11th Dec 1798 at Tring and had 6 children (Fanny b abt1799, Phoebe 1802, James b abt1810, Thomas b abt1811, John b abt1815 d1879, Martha b abt1816)
My family follows down John Garment's line until you get to my Grandmother and Great Aunt who were/are the last Garments in the line as far as I have found.(Excuse the punn)
Anyway, let me know if you think this may fit in with you.It would be great if it does. I will attempt to update my public tree at some point today (hopefully) so you can take a look.

Unfortunately the Thomas Garment (born 1811) in Tring is not the same Thomas Garment that is in my particular tree.
