I have found some Andrews families residing at both Holme Lacy and Dinedor, Herefordshire in the 1841 Census

Does anyone know if church records exist for this area ... I have searched Parish Chest for MIs but none are listed for either Holme Lacy or Dinedor

Thanks

Thomas Taylor - Travelling Showman

Hello,
I have links to Thomas Taylor who had a Boxing Booth which went around the various fairs of the UK at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th.

Thomas seems to have been born in Liverpool though at one point he lived in Newport in Gwent and Cheltenham. He was originally married to Rachel Selina Jane Davies of Hereford and died in December 1945 in Hereford where he is buried. His mother was Sarah Taylor. Tom also had a scrap metal business in Cheltenham.

I believe that a few famous boxers of the period fought at Tom's booth and I also believe that he was linked in some way to Ronnie Taylor's boxing booths though how exactly I cannot fathom at this stage.

Does any of this strike a chord with anyone?

Thanks

Dan

Looking for information on the family of Thomas Andrews, born about 1791, probably in Herefordshire. He married an Elizabeth & they had children in Hatfield parish, Herefordshire, later moving to Little Birches near Bockleton in Worcestershire. Children included John, Sarah, Thomas, James, George, Elizabeth, & my gr-gr-gr-grandfather William, who was christened in Bockleton in 1825. I can't pin down a marriage for a Thomas & Elizabeth that seems right, & am wondering if maybe they came from another county...I've searched Hereford & Worcester & Shropshire for 1805-1815 & come up with nothing so far.

I'm not sure if you've used Google to find any information, but the message boards have a lot of shared information regarding this family. I was trying to figure out if Joseph Marion Seale was related to my hubby's family and more importantly, how. I'm sure he is, and I found Joseph Marion Seale's death certificate online at the LDS Pilot site (pilot.familysearch.org) and see his mother was Frances Adeline Heck and father (blank) Seale. Louis Seale's death certificate says his mother was F. A. Heck and father J. H. Seale. My husband descends through Priscilla Jane Seale, daughter of Coulson Marion Seale. This has pretty much been an uphill battle trying to find info and discern who it is they're talking about from initials.

Here's a link to the board I was talking about...
http://www.jenforum.net/seale/messages/184.html
Thank you for responding. My mother-in-law (long gone) was an inmate at Tupsley House around 1911 and I wanted to know something about the place. She was not an orphan although her mother seems to have disappeared.
It seems that all the records are lost and Hereford archives have nothing to offer. I know it became a sort of training place for children who would be placed in service or to apprenticeships but it seems to have changed its function several times. I would be glad to have whatever information you think relevant, although your stay is some time after the period I am trying to explore.
I can well imagine that your experience would not be very pleasant even if the staff were trying to make life easier (which perhaps they weren't).
Any help or information will be gratefully received, even tiny snippets sometimes provide important clues as I'm sure you know.
Thank you again.
Peter D Arnold.

There is a marriage June qtr 1914 down the road at Monmouth
Agnes M Preece married Arthur Prosser. The Agnes you see in 1901 is probably the same Agnes Preece who shows in Herefordshire in the 1891 census. The Callow a few miles south of Hereford, 16 miles from Monmouth.

Agnes is part of a large family, parents John and Lucy.

Fred

Llanrothal Court and farm remain but the village has gone. The owner disliked riding through the empty village that he diverted the road to go around it, and so the only surviving building, the chapel, is stranded in the middle of as a field. fred

I've had a good look at the 1901 census but Thomas Henry doesn't show, he's there in 1911 Brecon. They may have been on the move during the 1901 census. I've tried Virnel, Vernell etc with no luck. It seems most of the Vernalls are living on the Hereford/Worcester border.
The marriage certificate looks like the only way to get the info you need. cheers Fred

Births Dec 1881
REES John Joseph Llanelly 11a 716
I obtained this birth certificate and it gave the father as David Rees and not Daniel which is what I am looking for...grrr!!!

Births Dec 1885
Crutchley Eliza Elizabeth Lichfield 6b 438
I also obtained this birth certificate and it confirms that Obadiah is her father and Louise Crutchley nee Morgan was her mother. Also confirmed by Obadiah and Louisa's marriage cert.

Whats interesting is that Obadiahs birth states that the informant was Sarah Crutchley - widow of deceased. So between 1884 and 1888 Obadiah remarried. Is anyone able to find another marriage as I cannot. I do not know what happened to Louisa.

I am in the process of answering all the questions you raise but for different reasons! The silver salver in Bucknell is certainly still in existence, the one in Llanfair Waterdine is identical and I should have a copy of it's inscription before long. The monument to Davies parents is not in the church but a tombstone outside. There is a charities trust stillin operation in Llanfair and I am looking into whether Woods poorstock is still part of it - I believe it is likely because i know the trustees struggle to find 'poor' in the parish in the original sense of the word.
My interest in John Davies DD is by virtue of the mention of him living at the Graig, Llanfair Waterdine where I live.
I believe I have contacted you via another website without reply. If you are interested I will certainly let you know anything I find out. Please let me know if you still want to know as I note this post was from 4 years ago!

Thomas Married Olive E Rainbow in 1914 Pontypridd, Glamorgan. if anyone has any info i would be very grateful for their help.
Many thanks Malcolm.

Many thanks fred for your reply. Since posting my message I
looked at the 1901 census where i beleive his possible brother was. I found him in the Cottage Homes in Worcester.
There is a Thomas Vernhalls there aged abt 8 years. I've since checked BDM's and can't find any evidence of
Thomas Vernhalls born anywhere around that time, so I think it's a case of miss transcribing etc. But like you said if all else fails, I will need a certificate.
Many thanks Malcolm

SARAH PRYCE or SARAH COLEFORD abt 1795

Hello

I wonder if anyone can help please. I am looking for a Sarah born abt 1795 in Leintwardine. She married Thomas BEACHIM in about 1825; he was a Butcher and they lived in St. Clement Danes in London. He died in 1867. Sarah died in 1874 aged 79. I had been led to believe that her name was Sarah COLEFORD but I have just seen the new database on Ancestry.co.uk and there is an image of the Banns of Marriage for March 1825 between Thomas BEACHIM and Sarah PRYCE, both of the Parish of St. George in Bloomsbury, London. This marriage would fit nicely with the fact that they baptised one of their children Zebedee Pryce BEACHIM in 1829, a good clue if ever there was one.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Margaret Smith

Hi
I know this is quite an old post but if information is still available you may be able to solve a problem for me. I am desperately trying to find more information about James Vaughan who was living in Chelsea in 1841 but gives his place of birth as Skenfrith. He was born about 1800 and married Anne Burries in 1834 in St George's, Hannover Square in London. I have information about his life in London and family, but nothing before 1834. I believe that there was a Vaughan family living on an estate which may be where he was from.
Many thanks for any info you can provide.
Suzanne
