Smith & Laxton of Old Weston, Hunts

Hi,

I am tracing a Dinah LAXTON born abt 1792 Old Weston who married William SMITH in 1818 and then John SMITH in 1820. I believe that the 2nd marriage took place in Old Weston.

Does anyone know how/if these men are connected? As yet I have not been able to establish who their parents were and so am at a dead end.

Appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Lu

Hunts Marriage Index shows marriages in Old Weston of Diana Laxton and William Smith in 1818, and Dinah Smith widow and John Smith in 1820, all of the parish of Old Weston.

There's no burial of a William in Old Weston though. The only adult William Smith 1818-20 was aged 23 and buried on 11 Jan 1819 at Tilbrook, 5 miles from Old Weston.

Perhaps someone with the transcript of Old Weston parish register will be able to assist with other details

David

John Smith was witness at William Smith and Diana Laxton marriage in Old Weston, Huntingdon in 1818

William Smith married Diana Laxton 1st March 1818 St Swithin Church, Old Weston, Huntingdon, England. Witnesses were John Smith and Mary Ouincy.

Huntingtonshire Marriage Index
John Smith living at Old Weston married St Swithin Church, Old Weston, Huntingdon, England on the 20th August 1820 to Dinah Smith widower. Witnesses were John Glover and Mary Bushby.

Verifying signatures of the witness and John's marriage might suggest a connection? Thats if they didn't sign with an x

Regards Sue

Hello Sue,

Sorry for the late reply but genie research has been put on the back burner for awhile and I am only just getting back to it. I have your info but am hoping to riddle out the parentage of the Smith boys!

James Jabez Smith and Lucy Knighton are my GGGG Grandparents.

John Smith & Diana Laxton
>James Jabez Smith & Lucy Knighton
>>John Smith & Esther Anne Pollen
>>>Ernest John Smith & Ruby May Todd
>>>>Esther May Smith & Robert George Speechley are my great grandparents.

Thanks for your response.

Cheers,

Hello Margaret,

Thank you for that info! The marriage of Wm & Mary and their children had been passed on to me but provided little by way of dates. Just one thing, I have also as children of Wm LAXTON & Mary BELL
James b abt 1799
Frances b abt 1808
Was there no trace of them in your indexes?

Other than that, excellent to see the witnesses of the marriage - must now search out Thomas SMITH to see if he holds the key to breaking down my wall.

Cheers,
Lu
