Garfield and Barfield . . . Same family?

I am researching Garfield ancestors in Huntingdon and Northampton counties in the 1700's and have found many records for Barfield as well as Garfield. So far I have never found both Barfields and Garfields in the same parish at the same time. Is it at all likely that they are the same family name, the B for a G?
