If you invest £7 in his death certicate you'll get the address where he died, which may not be his home address particularly if he died in hospital, and the address of the informant, which if it wasn't his wife again is unlikely to be his home address.

But it's the best place to start

David

Hi, I am intersted in any information you may have on the John Munden/Ann Cason's son Emanuel, who married Rebecca (Walker). Emanuel was allegedly the twin brother of Wm. Mumden (b.1766) and was named after another brother Emanuel who died that same year at the age of 8. I found a lot on the Cason's in Huxford's Wiregrass, but not much on the Munden's or Rebecca. I have the Georgia lottery as well but not much else. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It is my work.

I did all the research and did find that this line does descend from the Joan Shakespeare line Sister of William. It has all the proofs. The other members of this family have copied it under their own names.

Thanks

Emalu

You've been fooled by an Ancestry error in 1841. The 1841 census merely states whether or not the person was born in the county in which he was enumerated, indicated by a Y(es) or N(o). So in Haddon, Hunts the whole of the Lambert family had a Y(es) or Ditto against their names, meaning they were all born in Hunts. I've no idea how Ancestry managed to make a hash of it (for the whole parish, not just the Lambert family.

Same with 1851. It was enumerated as Cherry Orton not Cherry Burton, which is an Ancestry mistranscription. You need to be looking at the census images not Ancestry's indexing which is of a low standard

Hunts and Northants are adjoining counties. Longthorpe Northants and Orton Waterville Hunts are only a couple of miles apart but the county boundary runs between them

David

There's only one marriage in Hunts of a male Goodjohn between 1726 and 1754 - at Godmanchester in 1741 between John Goodjohn and Ann Brown (per Hunts Marriage Index). It seems a good bet that these were his parents. The BVRI shows the marriage as being on 29 Sept 1741

Unfortunately Godmanchester baptisms on the BVRI only start at 1753, and there is one son of John and Ann:
Joseph Goodjohn 17 Jan 1757.

There's no transcript available for Godmanchester baptisms, but the parish register has been filmed by the LDS so is available to order and film at your nearest LDS Family History Centre

David

I looked this up for you a year ago, and drew a blank.
http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/localities.britisles.england.hu...

The answer's still the same. There's a John Wade baptised on 1 July 1804, son of John and Elizabeth, and another on 6 Sept 1835 son of Robert and Mary Ann. The only Wade baptisms in Fen Stanton between 1804 and 1830 were all children of John and Elizabeth.

I asked before where the 1817 birthdate came from? Was it from his death record in Australia or the passenger list, or is it a guess based on his marriage? Could he have been older when he married? If you still haven't purchased his marriage certificate, you need to, as his father will be named, and the witnesses may provide a clue.

I still can't find John in 1841 although there's a Rebecca Richardson living at Eaton Ford aged 20 ie 20-24

Since last year I've acquired St Neots baptism transcript. William Wade was baptised on 23 Aug 1846, son of John & Rebekah, labourer; and Elizabeth on 17 Sept 1848, dau of John & Rebecca, labourer

David

I'd be interested to learn how you established that Thomas Hart of Hemingford Abbots who married Elizabeth Marriott at Buckden in 1806, and who according to online trees citing Emalu Pedigree Records was born in Godmanchester in 1784 (have you found a baptism?) was the son of John Shakespeare Hart who was born in Stratford-upon-Avon and who died at Tewkesbury Gloucs, the other side of the country?

John and Mary Hart who married on 27 Nov 1774 at Tewkesbury, baptised the following children in Tewkesbury:
Sarah 12 Nov 1775
William Shakespeare 1 Nov 1778
George 22 Dec 1780
John 22 Dec 1780
A member submission on the IGI also suggests there was another son, Henry, born c1781.
William Shakespeare and John jun were both buried in Tewkesbury according to member submissions, and John senior died on 22 Jan 1800 at Tewkesbury citing Emalu.

So the logistics are that John and Mary married in Tewkesbury, had at least 4 children there, then galloped 100 miles cross country to have Thomas in Godmanchester, then left him there when the rest of them went back to Tewkesbury at some time before 1800. My credulity is being stretched!

There was a John Hart age 86 buried at Hemingford Abbots on 15 Apr 1821. Who was he?

David

This will be a quicky as I've got visitors from England arriving in the morning and the house is a TIP!

Jane in 1841 was aged 20 ie 20-24, so I suspect she could have been a daughter of John's earlier marriage, bearing in mind that John and Ann didn't marry until Dec 1821. But William born 1822 would seem to have been a son of John and Ann.

Fen Stanton baptisms only go up to 1843 on the IGI and BVRI, so that's possibly why you haven't found baptisms for William and Mary Ann. Hunts FHS sell a transcription on CDrom which goes up to 1990.

The BVRI is a CDrom set produced by the LDS, which is an adjunct. It's good for Hunts where so few parishes are on the IGI

Microfilms are available to order and view at your nearest LDS Family History Centre - list at www.familysearch.org

David

There's only one Owen baptism at Fenstanton - Jane on 9 Sept 1832, daughter of John and Mary. She may have been William's sister, but that's pure speculation. More speculation is that it may have been a late baptism as the only Jane Owen I can see in Fenstanton in 1841 was aged 20, living with Joseph and Ann Mole (in 1851 William and Mary Ann had a daughter named Jane)

There are no Owen burials in Fenstanton 1701-1900

There are the following marriages in Fenstanton
1821 John Owen widower and Ann Stacy widow
1822 Ann Owen widow and John Eden

A John Eden 34 was buried on 21 Jul 1832 at Fenstanton
In 1833 Ann Eden widow married Joseph Mole widower

And finally I'm getting somewhere as Jane Owen age 20 in 1841 was living with Joseph and Ann Mole - so it seems as though Jane may have been the step? daughter of Ann. Also in the same household were Rebecca Eaden 15 and John Eaden 13. William Owen 15 was the previous entry, living in the Hall household.

There's a burial of John Owen age 55 at Bluntisham cum Earith on 11 Jul 1822, but I can't tell if it was the same John. Bluntisham is 5 miles from Fenstanton.

The only Stacy/Ann marriage that fits was at Fenstanton in 1812 between William Stacy and Ann Briers, but I can't see a burial of a William Stacey in Fenstanton 1812-21

You need to look at the parish record microfilms to get further details of the above events, but from dates it fits that Ann (Briers?) was William's mother

The Fenstanton marriages and some baptisms have been extracted onto the IGI, so you can check the dates yourself. But the batch that includes Jane Owen is one of the sexist female only batches, but I took my data from the BVRI which includes males as well!

David

I need to confirm William's birth to move my search backwards but I'm not sure how to go about it. 1822 fits with all the census entries and his age in 1846 when he married Mary Ann Hall. On the marriage certificate his father's name is given as John Owen, occupation 'Waterman'. I'd like to be able to find out William's mother's name so that I can try and match up the John Owens I've found on the 1841 census with William's father, (supposing they were still alive then!), and find out whether he had any siblings. If someone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Linda

Hi David
I'm extremely impressed that in a little over two hours you've managed to provide so much information. The original Ann Briers seems to have been a busy lady in the husband department.
I had found both Jane and William on the '41 census and did wonder if they were related. I'm sure it's the right William though as his age would have been rounded down from 19 to 15 and on the same page is a William Hurl (who appears as a witness on my William's marriage cert.) And he's living with a branch of the Hall family and five years later marries Mary Ann Hall.
Including Jane, who you mentioned, William and Mary had eight children in Fenstanton and I haven't been able to find baptism records for any of them so maybe they weren't 'regular church' people.
I've been working on the premise that John Owen was alive at the time of William's marriage as there was no (dec) after his name on the marriage certificate, as I've found on others, although maybe this wasn't standard practice at the time, I'm not sure.
I'm beginning to doubt whether the Owens originally came from Fenstanton after all, perhaps they were from a neighbouring village. I'm intrigued by the 'John and Mary on Jane Owen's baptism, I wonder who Mary was?
Now I have to admit my ignorance, I'm aware of IGI but I have no idea what the BVRI is that you mention, and where would I get hold of microfilms of parish records?
You've certainly given me a lot to think about.
Many thanks
Linda

Hello Anne

We've already corresponded (about a year ago) through Genes Reunited, and I am afraid I have made no progress. To be honest I've done very little genealogy in recent times and am frankly at a bit of a dead end with William and Elizabeth. I am not sure what the next step would be, indeed even if there is one. Perhaps I need to take some specialist advice on this if I am to make progress.

Regards Ian

Hi Josie,

I sent you my last message when I was at work, and have just taken another look at my tree.
I am related to this Bluff family!

James Bluff = Elizabeth ?

Children, all born Keystone
William Bluff c. 1786
John Bluff c. 1788
James Bluff c. 1790
Thomas Bluff c. 1792
Samuel Bluff c. 1794
Joseph Bluff c. 1797
Ann Bluff c. 1802
George Bluff c. 1805

William Bluff (c. 1786) is my Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather.

I have lots of information on his family, and the family information of Joseph and Ann (I have lots on Ann). If you'd like more info please let me know. How are you related to James?

I don't know anything about James except his name, I'm afraid! However, I will keep on looking...

Best wishes

Hazel

Hi Josie,

I'm interested in your post because I have quite a large Bluff family line in my tree. Please could you send me some info on your family in the 1830s+? Then I'll see if any of mine matches up.

If you would like to e-mail it my address is hazelgoodes@hotmail.co.uk.

Best wishes

Hazel

Hi Mary,

I've done a bit of work on 'your' HALL line in Fenstanton (the line descended from Israel Hall) because I'm descended from the 'other' HALL line down from Edward HALL who was about the same age as Israel. Neither Edward nor Israel (who were not siblings I believe) were baptised in Fenstanton.

I'd be very interested to know about the children of William OWEN and Mary Ann HALL.

cheers,
matt

Hi,
I see their arrival, all on the Duke of Roxburgh, 1849. From looking at the old messages i've listed what i think is each place of birth.

WADE, Elizabeth, inft, St Neot's, Hunts
WADE, John, 30, Fenstanton, Hunts
WADE, Rebecca, 29, Eaton Socon, Beds
WADE, William, 3, St Neot's, Hunts

A marriage certificate will be your best bet for getting solid information on the family. It may well be he John grew up in Fenstanton, but was in fact born elsewhere. All this is complicated by the fairly miserable state of Hunts records no IGI.

I see they had at least one child after arriving in Australia:
V18513027 37A/1851 WADE GEORGE H JOHN REBECCA

Do you know when John died in NSW? What does the death certificate say?

cheers,
matt
