yes we do remember the Hibbins of Barwell. Down chapel street before you get to The Common was Hibbins field where he kept the orse. There was a big old house with a field on the Marl Place. Me aunty Dora said "she smoked a woodbine with him and her Dad smelt it on her and told 'er oft when she got 'ome."

Sorry dont have any dates but we are seeing Dora on Sunday
she is 80 and she says it was when she "was a gal" so must have been 60 years or more.

Regards Jeff

Ihad a great great grandfather called Harry Hibbins, who also had a horse and cart and at one point kept the Lime Kilns pub on the A5 Walting St.He wore gold earrings.and travelled back and forth to Leicester etc, once being found at the bottom of Shilton hill(nr Barwell) drunk as a lord because the horse could'nt get up the steep hill and the owner of his load owed him some money, so he drank the wares. His daughter Maud married Thomas Garratt, they had my grandma Lillian
Emma Garratt,Amy,Tom,George,Steve.Just in case they are connected....Shirley

Thank you for your e-mail, yes they are related my Grandfather John ( who was know as Dick) and Maud were brother and sister. If you are doing research into this family and need any help I have bits of information and certificates. I had heard that he owned the Lime Kilns so I will now see if I can find any more information.

Regards Maxine

Hi Maxine, Thanks for your reply. Its nice to know we're family. My great grandmother Maud has hers and Tom Garrats grave in Hinckley Cemetry. The new part.Straight in front of you, 3rd or 4th along. They recently added her grandaughters ashes, also Maud to the grave.
There is supposed to b a donkey buried under the tree at the Lime Kilns. The Hibbins also took care of their grandchildren. One was Eileen who I got to know. She was my grandma's illegitimate cousin. She told me how she was brought up by them.It must have been their daughters child.
I would love any info that you have. There may b writings from my dad recording some information about the family so I will check through it.
I think Tom and Maud helped with Mauds adopted son David.I met him at Great aunt Mauds funeral at Hinckley St Mary's church. They took care of my dad a lot too.
Love to hear from you again, Best wishes Shirley.
