Of course I do not mind, Anne. These messages are for all to see and respond to.

I have not come across William yet but may do so later. I am wainting for the next batch of images. What is a likely range of dates for his burial? Chin up, Nick

Hi Nick,

Thanks for your quick reply. William would have been born around 1762ish i think. I know that a Mary Pickard was married in 1819 at Sileby and she was a widow, but it could have been William and Marys daughter, also called Mary. She was born 1792 in Sileby. If you find any Pickards of Sileby, would you let me know. This is the last piece of the jigsaw for me.

Would you happen to know if i could find out if William was in the 17th Foot Regiment of Leicstershire. I know the regiment came up to Aberdeen before going on to Ireland i think. That could explain how he met Mary, who was from Strichen in Aberdeenshire.

Anne

Hi Anne,
The National Archives site is your best bet for finding out if there was a chance William was a soldier in the Leicestershire Regiment. I knew my grandfather's Regimental Number and picked his records up from there in no time at all. Mary could have met William in England. There were many migrant workers in the fishing industry.

I have bookmarked this page, so I won't lose this thread. When I get more material, I shall come back with the news.
Nick.
