Herriman Little Dalby

I am researching the family of John Herriman who resided in Little Dalby, Somerby, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. His wife may have been Elizabeth Hall bc 1799. The family is listed on the 1841 thru 1861 censuses. There are 2 death records for a John Herriman in Melton Mowbray: July-Sept 1862 or Sept 1870.
I believe that he was the father of Ann bc 1818, Mary bc 1820, Jane bc 1830, George bc 1832 and possibly Eliza bc 1839. On one census Eliza is listed as a 2 yr old dght and on the next she is listed as a 12 yr old gdght.

Was John Herriman's wife Elizabeth Hall? There is a marriage record for them on 30 March 1818. There is a christening record for a John Herriman on 24 Apr 1791 in Melton Mowbray. Can anyone tell me if this is the same couple on the Little Dalby censuses?

Thanks, Bettye

Henry Riley married Ann Herriman in Dec 1841 in Melton Mowbray. His father was John Riley and his mother was Ann Stafford. He was from the Owston area. I cannot find any data on Ann before their marriage.

Does anyone have access the the Melton Mowbray marriage records? I believe that their marriage record will give me the name of Ann Herriman's father.

Thanks, Bettye

Seeking information on the descendants of the children of John Joseph Watts and Caroline Russell. John was born in Alwalton, Huntingdonshire about 1847 and Caroline was born in Great Easton about 1848. They married about September in Uppingham and had 7 children between 1872 and 1884. Amazingly all were still living at home with their parents on the 1901 census.
The children are Jane Elizabeth (b c1872 in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, died I think in Leicester in 1907); Mary Daisy Hannah b c1873 in Leicester; Carrie Sophia b c1875 in Leicester; Elizabeth Georgiana b c1877 in Leicester; and the following all born in Barrow upon Soar - George Joseph in 1880, Florence in c1882 and Cecil Henry in c1884.
Is anybody researching this family? If I would like to make contact to exchange information as John Joseph is the great granduncle of my wife.
Many thanks
Alan

I'm researching my Grandmother's Family. She was Florence Adah Morton born 1899 in Sharnford Leicestershire. She was the daughter of Adah Mary Morton and the son of the wealthy man she worked for (name unknown). Adah was the daughter of John Morton born 1857 in Market Bosworth and Sarah Jane Forryan. I believe John to be the son of Joseph Morton born about 1819 also in MarketBosworth and Mary Jane Lount of Hallaton. I think Josephs father was John.

If anyone has any connection to this family I would love to hear from them.

Fiona
I'm going to visit Walton On The Wolds the end of this month.
My GGGG grandfather Edward Topley b Aug. 2, 1777 in Walton On The Wolds married Mary Preston from Sileby in Dec. 1805 and raised their 7 children in Walton On The Wolds. In the 1841 census I noticed "Place" names on the census form referred to North Part, East Part, South Part, West Part and Edward and his family were recorded living in "Middle Part". Can anyone tell me how do I find the Topley residence in Middle Part? Is there a boundary map or some document to define the different "parts" of Walton On The Wolds? Is there any churches or cemeteries there?

John (b ca 1590)& Hester (b ca 1592) ROBBINS of Leic. Co. had 6 sons...5 of whom are known. John, Nicholas, Thomas, Samuel emigrated to the American colonies by 1634-5. John, the son of John & Hester, settled in Wethersfield, CT. This is my line. Nicholas and Thomas went to Duxbury, Massachusettes. Samuel went to Salisbury and died there. It is his will that identifies father John, mother Hester, and Joseph (brother who stayed in England with his parents). I have a lot of info on this ROBBINS family that I will gladly share with anyone of this line.
POLLARD Family -- Birstall, Leicester, UK

Caroline
I am looking into my father-in-laws side of the family - name of Pollard. Although most of his side lived at Birstall may be they are linked to the Pollards in Anstey.
My father in law's name is Norman. His fathers name was Joseph and his mother was Elizabeth (nee Brant). Unfortunately, my father in law's memory isn't as good as it was and he can't remember what his granddad's first name was other than he was the station master at Birtsall. His grandma's name also escapes him as well. I do know that his father was also employed by the railway as a clark.

I do have further information if you think there is a link. I am new at this, you may be able to tell but if you can help it would be great.

Regards
Jean

Her full name was Edith Emily Jessie Hutton and I am wondering if anyone can tell me anything about a Hutton family in Melton around 1900, or maybe someone knew her. She married Hector Mackenzie in Sydney in Sept 1926, I'm not sure if they knew each other before they travelled, they did arrive on different ships.
Also can anyone tell me if I order a birth cert. for her will it tell me details about her parents?
thanks for your help

Hi again everyone

Just wondering if anyone knew of anywhere I can get info on people who were given Freedom of the City of Leicester. My Great Grandfather Frederick Howard Burdett was apparently given the Freedom of the City in 1913. I have been onto the Leicester Council's website about people granted freedom and have emailed the relevant dept for some more info. It sounds very grand but as far as I can tell it wasn't - it was more of a tradespersons recognition. He was a Master Tailor apparently.

Anna
Hello Roots Webbers...

I wonder if anyone out there could help me? I am trying to locate pre-1837 birth/baptismal records for someone, and as I live in Madrid, this is quite hard for me to do myself. I would be of course happy to pay anyone who could do this for me.

I'll give you a few details. I'm trying to find details on a Thomas Wallerstein, who appears in only the 1841 census, working as blacksmith in Kirkby Mallory, Sparkenhoe.

I realise it's a bit of a long shot, but I'm hoping he was living then where he was born - and apparently Kirkby Mallory has only one church.

His age in the 1841 census is given as 35 (so he'd have been born around 1806).

Does anyone think they could help me with this? I would be SO grateful to anyone who could do this!

Best wishes, Claire Wallerstein.

I have been researching my family history since 1965 and have amassed a considerable amount of information relating to the HARRIS family of Leicester and descendants.

My families occupations were BOATMEN, FRAMEWORK KNITTERS, LABOURERS and CARTERS a humble stock !

I have many pedigrees which I am sure will be of interest to someone who is researching the same families.

I would therefore be very happy to hear from anyone researching the above names or occupations with a view to exchange information. This will be easy to do as my pedigrees are computerised using Family Tree Maker.

I look forward to a favourable response.

James.

I am trying to find out what a shop in Hinckley was called before it became the funeral parlour. I have looked on the internet but no luck. The shop was owned by daisy atkin, possible in the early 1960's (as my mum remembers going there when she was little). It is located on the corner of Upper Bond Street and Well Lane in Hinckley. We think that the shop had a link with a brewer. Can anybody help? We don't think the photo is the actual shop....

I am searching for a Thomas White born around 1780-1790 who's son Creed Fulton White b 1835 was my gr-gr-grandfather. Thomas' wife was named Nancy and I heard the last name may be Lavender but not sure. In the 1840 Census they had I think 10 children, but I can't find them in the 1850 census so Im thinking Thomas and Nancy died prior to that. I am searching for any information that anyone might have on this individual.

I am researching my grandparents, John Stanley Rees (3 March 1921 - 23 April 1974) who married Alice Atkin (24 Nov 1922 - 04 Feb 1984), and lived on the house on the corner of Rugby Road/Granville Road. Year of marriage unknown but I do know that they were married at St Mary's church in Hinckley. I am also interested in both of their parents but I have no information whatsoever, other than Alice's mum was called Daisy Atkin and owned a small newsagents/shop in Upper Bond Street (apparently where the funeral directors is now). Any information would be great!!
