Hi, their is a one name society for Wormleighton in England, it's run by a Mr. Hancock. He told me there's a connecion between our London Wormleighton's and the Bitterwells, and the Yorkshires. We have a photo of a Hannah Wormleighton, ( an ? Aunt or What ?) but there are 2 Hannah's listed in York census, in correct time for Hannah's clothing in photo. Which ones ours or are both ours! Does anyone have an idea ?
Hi Anne,
The National Archives site is your best bet for finding out if there was a chance William was a soldier in the Leicestershire Regiment. I knew my grandfather's Regimental Number and picked his records up from there in no time at all. Mary could have met William in England. There were many migrant workers in the fishing industry.

I have bookmarked this page, so I won't lose this thread. When I get more material, I shall come back with the news.
Nick.

Hi Nick,

Thanks for your quick reply. William would have been born around 1762ish i think. I know that a Mary Pickard was married in 1819 at Sileby and she was a widow, but it could have been William and Marys daughter, also called Mary. She was born 1792 in Sileby. If you find any Pickards of Sileby, would you let me know. This is the last piece of the jigsaw for me.

Would you happen to know if i could find out if William was in the 17th Foot Regiment of Leicstershire. I know the regiment came up to Aberdeen before going on to Ireland i think. That could explain how he met Mary, who was from Strichen in Aberdeenshire.

Anne

Hi,

I hope you don't mind me butting in, but i was chuffed to see that you are transcribing deaths in Sileby. My 4x Gt Grandparents lived there. The name is William Pickard of Sileby. His wife was Mary nee Farquhar from Scotland. I would be delighted to hear if you have seen Williams death. I have nothing to go on for them, no marraige or death certificates. The only thing that might have happened is that a Mary Pickard married a John Landon in 1819 in St Marys Church Sileby, and it states that she was a widow. Mary and William would have been born around 1762. Hope this makes sense

Anne

I have posted messages on both those sites. There are many broken links on the Sileby site.

I am so pleased that you were able to get someone to go to the record office at Wigston. That is the best way to do research. I wonder whether you would be able to give me a list of surnames for the Barrow and Sileby villages.

Does your friend have an email address?
Hi when I first started looking for family around the Leicestershire area I was shown to www.sileby-village.co.uk were alot of records were put on the site and I think they are in the process of transcribing all the local records. The other site I use is www.leicestershirevillages.com. There are forums on both sites. I was lucky to get a fairly local person researching the same family who was able to go to the records office and local churches to check on information found on the internet sites.

Hope these sites are some help to you.

Thanks eyepie,
Do you belong to any other forums or groups who are interested in the Sileby parish records?
I would like as many proven records as possible. I want to be accurate and where possible give suggestions where I am uncertain of the entry in the register. Ideally, I should like to see the registers rather than view poor fiche files.

Hi,
I am Hazel Green
My grandmother was Hilda Edna May Breakwell. Her father was Frederick Edmund Breakwell. His father was F.E.R.Breakwell so is my gggrandfather too.
Please visit my tree, I have a photograph beleived to be him sitting on his mothers' knee kindly given to me by Keith Breakwell who also gave me extensive details of the Long Eaton Breakwells which I have entered on my tree. There is also a report of the death of F.E.R.Brakewell (note spelling-in report and on his headstone) in 1885 from the Long Eaton Advertiser.
His father is Thomas Breakwell and mother is Mary Rowe married 23/4/1842 at Wibbenhall. Thomas is entered as a widow on the marriage certificate.I haven't confirmed his first wife yet.
I haven't found F.E.R.Breakwells birth. I found an entry for Edmund Row-christened 14/7/1829 Cleobury Mortimer-mother- Mary Row, no mention of a father. It has been suggested that I look at the Shropshire bastardy bonds to see if there is an entry for Mary Rowe-which will give the fathers name.I have the death certificates for Thomas & Mary-details are also on my tree.
Looking at the info given to me by Keith Breakwell I can see Sam married to Ginny with Ethel one of their children. He also has Emma (unmarried) Elsie(unmarried nurse) Francis,Stan,Frank,Sam(London). He has nothing of the next generation-so anything that you can contribute will be gratefully received.
If you are missing any of the certificates which I have collected I will willingly let you have copies. I hope that my findings tally with yours. Please let me know of any discrepencies. We are off to Cleobury Mortimer this weekend if the weather is ok to see if 'The Foutain Inn' & 'The Crown Inn'-where Mary Rowe/Breakwell died- are still there.

I've been trying to do research on my grandmas side of the family her name was iris davie who married dennis hemstock, We know that her dad was called james edward davie & believe he was born around 1904 maybe Leicester & think his mum & dad were called albert davie & charlotte clay, james edward davie married a alice brown but dont know who her parents are or when she was born, so now i'm at a dead old but we're not to sure if the parents for james are right as the family story was that some of the davie family came down of scotland! I search for trees on here for james & nothing but some people have his sisters lily & eva!? If anyone one can help me that'll be great Thanks

Hi,

This is a longshot but I am researching Bodycots in Leicester. I have a Mary Bodycot born 1819 in somewhere like Lenoncourt in France, she died in Northumberland Street in Leicester in 1890. She married a Francis Hill 1843.

I am struggling to nail down her parents, I think there may possibly be an Ipswich connection?

Just wondering if you may have come across her or in some way related?

Kind Regards

Merlins41

The best I can make of the writing is the name is "N.B.
Smart". The above named person is listed as niece and informant with
the above address in October of 1927 on the death registration of my husband's great uncle. Harry Tucker, of 7 Sea View Avenue, Plymouth, died on October 24, 1927 in Plymouth, England. He was 73 yrs of age and a retired mine agent. Can anyone help me with who this person is? So far I have not come across the name "Smart" in any connection with Harry Tucker and I am wondering if I am missing a whole branch of a tree. Could this person possibly be related to Ada Eliza Maud Atkinson who married Isaac Sampson Maunder in 1916? Any help would be greatly appreciated. MJMalason

I am transcribing Deaths registered in Sileby for 1765 to 1800. Many of the records are unreadable. I want to know the surnames of families who were present in this period. Is there anybody who could help with this, please?

Yes, Stiffkey in Norfolk is the place where my father's family originated. I am the grandson of Daniel Thorogate d1957, married Millicent Blanch nee ? b1885. If you would like to follow this up, my son has been doing some work on the family ancestry so can probably help.

Hi
Very interested to hear from you. Depending on the approximate date of the clock, it was probably made by my husband's gt.gt.grandfather. We would appreciate more details if you would care to get in touch again direct on dragonfly@arrakis.es
Regards
Sheila Corrall
