Roy,
The Freebmd website shows a marriage of Thomas Dimoline Clayton to Annie Parsons, registered in June quarter, 1892 in Glanfordbrigg, Lincolnshire.

I have a subscription to Ancestry.com which gives me access to many records not available to the casual user. I'm willing to do look ups.

I checked the 1891 census and found Thomas Clayton, 20, living and working as a farm servant at Beech Grove, Barton-on-Humber. Annie Parsons, 22, was living and working as a domestic servant at Corn Hill Farm, Barrow Road, Barton on Humber. These two properties were next to each other on the census, so I assume they were that way in Lincolnshire.

My usual next step would be to check the 1901 census but you can access that yourself at www.census.pro.gov.uk

Let me know if you need further help.
Margaret

The 1891 census lists 14 John W Claytons living in Lincolnshire. They ranged in age from 4-74. There were also 40+ John Claytons. I need something else to narrow it down.

I live in the US so I'm not too knowledgeable on English geography, although I did visit Lincolnshire in 2002. My grandfather's family came from Horncastle and we found the family home. Some of the towns mentioned on the census may be in the area of GlanfordBrigg, but I wouldn't know.

However Thomas's parents are listed as Joseph Clayton born approx 1811 who married a Hannah but I can not find any surname conected to her. Ithink Joseph Claytons Parents were called John Clayton and Ann Baldock. if you can help any further it will be greatly appreciated My e-mail address is diggerclayton@hotmail.com

I have been browsing through references to my Dimoline family and came across your request, albeit three years old. I dont know whether you are much further forward in your search but if you wish further details I can supply them going back four or five generations from this request of yours. Send me an Email if I can be of further assistance to you.
sincerely
Michael Dimoline.

Hi,

I am also looking into the Clayton Family based around Glandford Brigg.

My ancestors were Thomas Clayton (B: 1848) who married Sarah Smith and later Letitia Paley and we believe his father to be Francis Clayton (DOB unknown) but we know that he was a farm labourer.

Just wondering if anyone has any information relating to them?

Kind regards,

Jessica

Jessica,
I checked the 1851 census for Glanford Brigg, Linc. There were no Thomas Claytons with a father named Francis. The closest I found was a Thomas Clayton, 1, nephew. He was living with Joseph Clayton 39,and his daughter Ann Clayton 9.
Also living with Joseph was his sister Elizabeth Clayton 20 and her children Charlotte and Thomas. There was no husband. Don't know if this is your Thomas. If you have any other info I'd be glad to look further.

Hi,

Thank you for your posting regarding the Clayton Family. Just thought I would respond.

I too could only find the Thomas Clayton living with Elizabeth and his uncle Joseph.

The marriage certificate (his 2nd marriage) for Thomas that we have deffinately says Francis Clayton being the name of his father. HowEver I'm just wondering if this is his 2nd name. I have done a little research and have just sent off for a birth cert. for a Thomas Clayton (hopefully its the right one!) I have also connected the Joseph to a David Clayton and there is a record of a marriage between an Eliz Sanderson & a David Clayton in 1850.

Although Eliz and the children are living with her brother in law Joseph in 1851 it appears David was working as a Farm Servant in Wrawby and is listed on the Farm census.

Joseph and David had parents by the name of John & Anne Clayton and they came from the Saxby area.

I thank you for your kind interest and hopefully the birth cert. should enable me to see if there is a connection between my Thomas and the above people.

Kind regards.

Jessica
