Classification: Lookup
Surnames: cowing,
I Am researching my husband's Cowing family mostly born Haydon Bridge, Northumberland - not far from Hexham.
In the 1866 Slaters Directory there is:-
William Cowing - a carter - his route states :-
Carriers Arms ( I believe this is in Haltwhistle) leaves every Monday to Longown, Cumberland.
Carrier Every Wednesday to Newcastle,
I am afraid that I don't know if this William is connected to my husband's family as I have not researched him.
Just thought this may be of interest.
