Thank you very much for the information Michael and Nancy.

I already knew about my G Grandmother Gladys, and yes I was looking to go backwards through time and trace the family.

I only knew that Gladys' father was called Henry Thomas Mockett from her marriage certificate and couldn't find out anything else apart from the fact that he married a woman with the surname Marshall, possibly Hetty.

I did find the origins of the Mockett name in the South East. And I also found the marriage in the Free BMDs for Henry James Mockett and a Hetty Beatrice Marshall like you mentioned Michael. And, I think this is what left me a little bit confused and stuck!

I'm still quite new to the whole researching thing but am slowly getting there.

I will look into the information you both gave me and will see where it takes me.
