These records will be kept at Newcastle upon Tyne. If you want to look through records which need a 'reader' you have to book in advance, and cannot just walk in.

You will probably get more information if you email them.

This is the Tyne Wear Archives. No dobt they will be able to move you in the right direction.

Woodhorn outside Ashington holds records for Northumberland especially for areas outside Tyne and Wear area. It is a little harder to get to by public transport (bus) but easy by auto. You do not need to reserve a reader there. Just do a Google search for Woodhorn Northumberland, you can find out the hours and a map on line. It is also a museum with many things to look at especially mining.

Louise,

You do not mention any time scale !

Blyth Library (upstairs in Local History corner) has Blyth area Electoral Registers from about 1929.

Earlier editions are, as Janis wrote, are available within the Northumberland County Record Office at Woodhorn
( Open Wed-Sun, 10am-5pm... web site says 15 min walk from Ashington Bus Station.... double that- unless you sneak over a railway line)

Tyne & Wear Archives have some ERs mainly for Tyne and Wear area ( Blyth is in Northumberland)

User Guide No 17 ( online at T&W site www.tyneandweararchives.org.uk) ) list whats available.

Parish records for Corbridge are available at Woodhorn. Gateshead at Tyne and wear Archives ( see User Guide No2, Nos 3 4 and 12 for non-Parish church records)

Blyth Parish ? In first part of 1800 Blyth straddled two Parishes, Horton and Earsdon, until later 1800s when St Mary's was born out of Horton and St Cuthbert's born out of Earsdon.

Horton, Earsdon and the two Blyth fledgling parishes, available at Woodhorn. Earsdon also available at Tyne and wear Arcs.

Woodhorn holds Civil cemetery records for Blyth area.. e.g.
Cowpen Cem Burial Registers 1877-1971, also Grants of Right of Burial. Blyth (Links) Cem Burial Registers 1860-1964 Purchased Graves Registers 1860-1902, Grants of Right of Burial 1910-1957 ( before these periods reference will be to individual church graveyards)

You are wise to check out what's where, before you visit. The most overheard phrase in Woodhorn or Tyne and Wear
" Sorry but should have gone to ..... ! "

Are you looking to Blyth Electoral Rolls to find someone in period later than 1911 census ? They are in Ward/Street order, not surname alpha order until more modern times.

Blyth Library has editions of the local newspaper, the "Blyth News" on film !, which included Births Deaths and Marriages.

Hi Michael

Sorry for not mentioning the dates

Corbridge parish record abt 1852 looking for John Forster(Foster) was told he might have been adopted and given this name not sure.
Also looking for the marriage for this person wifes name was Mary Turner.
Blyth electoral register from abt 1918 to 1947 looking to see who lived at 2 Bowes terrace between these dates as it seem's to appear on alot of certs..

Would any of these's places have records on Gateshead as well or do i need to go somewhere else for these.

I will be based at North Seaton so hopefully not to far to go.

St Mary's church Blyth is where my grand-parents were married

Many thanks for your help

Louise

Louise,

Gateshead Church records. ........
Film of actual church registers available in Tyne & Wear Archives ( in Newcastle).
Also abbreviated indexes available in Gateshead and Newcastle main libraries.

St Mary's ( C of E) Blyth, records on film available in Woodhorn ( County Record Office). St Mary's, Blyth, was started in 1860s as a "chapel of ease", born out of mother parish at Horton.

You are right... North Seaton only about 2 miles from Woodhorn ( North Seaton was one of the several "townships" that made up the Parish of Woodhorn.

I think I have told you this before, in a previous posting.... Bowes STREET was a central street in Blyth, in fact very close to St Mary's, on Market St, but I am not familiar with a Bowes TERRACE.

Blyth UD = Blyth Urban District ( run by the Blyth Urban District Council , Blyth UDC) Other less "townie" districts were RD ( Rural Disctrict)

Maybe when you get your nose into the Blyth Electoral Registers at Woodhorn, the Bowes Terrace/Street issue will be resolved.
