Hi
Just flicking through general messages and saw the names Teasdale and Taylor mentioned. There are both Teasdale's and Taylor's in my family tree - Dinah Teasdale married James Taylor in 1856 in Durham. They moved throughout various NorthEastt mining locations thereafter, having various offspring. The 1901 Census sees them living in Cramlington but I have no details of their deaths. Their daughter Mary Taylor married Robert Lowries at Newcastle Cathedral.
The name 'Gibson' took my attention however, as I have Gibson Teasdale's in my family tree - Gibson's full name was Elisha Gibson Teasdale but he was know as simply Gibson. His father was Elisha Teadale and his mother was Anne Gibson.
As theses names cropped up, I wondered if their were any links or any info.
Eager for a reply, thanks.

Your post on the Gibsons was some years ago and I dont know if you are still interested. My oldest records are of Thomas Gibson who married Margaret? prob b. about 1700. Two offspring William Gibson of which the only note is "very wild- disinherited by his father" and Elizabeth Gibson who married Christopher Weallands whose potrait we have. William had two sons John and William. There is an anotatation about William - "killed on his wedding morn"His profession is quoted as "Viewer" We have his diaries of 1746-1749. He was acolliery owners agent and seems to have spent most of his time tracking dow each others businessesn escaped indentured miners. The conditions in the mines as he describes at that time were appalling. His sister married William Hays of North Shields whose fam were shipowners in a small way. We have letters from 1805 when thier ships were on contract to the Admiralty to supply the Army in Spain in the Napoleonic wars. The Hays ,Gibson and Weallans families evidently had close connections, investing in each others businesses. Sorry I cant be more specific about dates. As I live in Uruguay its a bit difficult to do research at long range yours William Sinclair Hays

Hi William

There is a chance of a match here. I am absolutely sure that Benjamin Gibson was my GGGGG grandfather. He was born 1735 and appears to be the son of Thomas (born c 1693) and Mercy (Margaret) Landell (married 1722). I did not have a William Gibson as Thomas' son, but this doesn't mean there wasn't one. Both William and John were names used in my Gibson family. I did tentatively have a daughter Elizabeth born 1728. The Gibsons you mention were of similar social class to mine (quite important in 1700s). I will see if I can push this line of research a little further - problem is that Gibson is a common name in Newcastle, even this early. Further information about "my" Gibsons is on my Rootsweb pedigree, and I am happy to answer any specific questions you may have.
