I am searching on my Coxon ancestors of Eglingham, Northumberland, England.
I have the following marriage record:
Jane Coxon (daughter of Thomas Coxon) married John Walter Gibson on Sept. 23rd, 1879 at Eglingham.
Would appreciate hearing back if any further leads to these families.
Thank you.

I have a John Gibson, son of Taylor Gibson and Dorothy Smith, in the very early 1800's. The common name Dorothy may only be a co-incidence, but if you find a link, let me know as I have researched back further on this Gibson family.

My Great grandmother was a Gibson. Her parents Thomas Gibson and wife Annie Little went out to Australia in 1857/58 and landed in Melbourne. He was met by his brother Samuel and wife Ann Dawson. Thomas went up to Goodoowindi and lived there until he died in 1914. I believe Samuel and Ann may have followed them north a bit later as there son Richard was born some where in the Victorian goldfields. These Gibson's came from Northhumberland.

Doesn't appear to be a ready connection. My ancestors that came to Australia were Benjamin Gibson and his wife Emma. They came in 1856. Benjamin's father was a Thomas, but he died in Newcastle (drowned) in 1828. Benjamin did not have a brother Thomas.

However, Thomas came from a very large family and there could be an off chance that your Thomas was some form of cousin to my Benjamin. I have not yet traced all the families of Thomas' brothers, so I don't know all the descendants.

Gibson was of course a very common name in the area.

Doesn't look immediately relevant. The only Joseph I have in England in "my" tree was born 1804 and died in Jamaica in 1819.

Hi, I may have a sister Margaret born 1803 to your Mary McPherson. Her parents were Hugh McPherson and Margaret Anderson. My Margaret married Robert Studdy in 1832. If there is a connection, please get in touch.
