Anne Spoor was born in 1802 in Newcastle in the county of Northumberland, the daughter of Robert Spoor. It is believed that her christening took place on Sep. 7, 1802 in All Saints Parish. She married Thomas Brown b. 1789 (also of Newcastle) on August 24, 1825 in St. Andrew's Parish, Newcastle. With their children, Anne and Thomas emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1846 on the "John R. Skiddy."
Robert Spoor and his father, John Spoor were active in the Methodist movement and hosted John Wesley when he visited Newcastle shortly before his death.
Any contacts re: Robert or John Spoor and their descendants would be appreciated.

Good work ! Three out of four. You've helped greatly with the infomation about Anne and her brothers as I had pretty sketchy data there. My great granduncle Rev. George Martin Brown wrote a family history entitled "From Newcastle to Toronto" and in it stated that his grandfather i.e. his father Thomas' father was also named Thomas. Also he had his father born in April of 1789 so could not have been christened in March. I'll hold on to the name William though as it may have been a second name. I'll have to visit the LDS Genealogy Centre in my area and do some more thorough research on baptismal records.
Thomas Sr. was born in Wylam and since people didn't move around much in those days might have had his son christened there as well. I don't know where St. Nicholas Parish is in Newcastle. Could it be near Wylam ?
Again, thank you very much for the information.
Some day I hope to visit the area and dig up more information about possible siblings of my GGgrandfather and their descendants (if he had any, they don't appear to have emigrated before 1924 as that was the date of the family history.) and info on the descendants of Robert and John Spoor, my GGgrandmother's brothers.

Hello Don,

Here is an earlier Thomas BROWN, with a father Thomas, who was baptised in Newcastle St.Nicholas:-

BROWN, Thomas Christening
Gender: Male
Christening Date: 30 Apr 1786 Recorded in: Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England
Collection: St Nicholas
Father: Thomas BROWN
Mother: Mary
Source: FHL Film 1068902 Dates: 1678 - 1844

Wylam was in the parish of Ovingham. Go to this map of Northumberland Parishes and you will see they were quite near each other:-

http://www.swinhope.demon.co.uk/genuki/NBL/nblmap.html

Just hit on the name of the parish and it will bring up details of the area and the churches.

If you go to my website at the foot of this message and on to the section entitled 'Useful Websites', you will find around 140 sites, a lot of them searchable.

Thanks for the new lead Harry. It was interesting learning more about Wylam.
You are to be commended on your website. The value to me and other amateur genealogists of your links is very significant.
Thank you and Happy New Year,

There was a booklet put out for a Brown for the 86th birthday of Rev. George Martin Brown by the Brown-Spoor Society in 1926. It shows a detailed family tree for the brown family in Toronto.

Yes, I have the booklet. Rev. Brown was my Ggrandfather's younger brother. Since 1998 I have been trying to bring the tree, outlined in the booklet, up to date bringing the number of descendants of Thomas and Ann up into the thousands. May I ask how you fit into the family? Thank you.

I believe that we have spoken on the phone about the Brown family. I am the son of Arnold Brown, grandson of Alfred Brown and great-grandson of Robert Spoor Brown.

Sorry about that, Wayne. Yes, of course we have spoken. You're Ron's brother. If I can be any help with Brown genealogy, please get in touch.
