Searching for our MEHEW family in Northamptonshire. They originated in Huntingdonshire but moved to Northants and were employed in the Iron Ore industry there.

We have a George Matthew MEHEW born 1882 son of William & Lois MEHEW, William was employed as an Iron Ore labourer, Lois was formerly Lois WARREN.
Also Alfred William MEHEW married to Hannah WILSON they had a son William George MEHEW in 1903.

Would be interested to hear from anyone researching these families.

Dear Ann,

Hope you and your family are well and your fitting all the missing pieces together.

Ann did you know that the Mehew's were originally Tinkers according to my father Charles Mehew (Cyril). His father was a blacksmith/plumber/gas fitter (George Alfred Henry), his father worked for the Water Board (George Charles Mehew) but before this the family wandered sometimes fixing /sharpening farm equipment/knives maybe selling pots and pans. Dad was told this as a boy many times.

Also re the Thulburns I think it can be spelt Thulborn, with this spelling I was able to locate John Thulborn marriage to Elizabeth Demster? in 1863. Don't know if this helps anything.

Please keep in contact.

Andrea.

Hi Anne

I saw you were interested in Mehews. I am afraid I have nothing on the Northants info you seek. However my Mehews also originate from Hunts - I have a Henry Bull Mehew born circa 1839 in Eyensbury (now part of St Neots)I think his father was James Mehew who married a Mary Bond Bull. Does this tie in with anything you have researched?

Hi,
I am also a Mehew, my grandparents came to Canada some time after they were married, some time before 1915 I recently went to the cemetary where they are burried and found 5 graves bought by my grandfather, 1 in 1917 for their little girl, who was 1 year old and I beleive that she was born in Toronto. My grandfather's name was Fred Mehew, I beleive he was born in 1887. My grandmother's name was Daisy Townsend and I beleive she was born in 1886. They were married in Wales some where, granddad was born in Wales and I think grandma in England. If you could tell me anything about this family I would be more than greatfull.
THANK YOU
JANET WHITE nee MEHEW

Hi Janet

Are you sure about the birth date of your Fred? I have a Fred in our Mehews but he is born c. 1876? Do you have your Fred's birth certificate to confirm this?

May be Fred is a family name and your Mehews are an offshoot of ours cousins etc. It is such an unusual name. Another odd question - is there any evidence of your Mehews being Baptists. Our Mehews were baptists and this has carried on to recent times.

Hope we can find a connection.

Helen
