I am looking for information on the family of Ann ADKINS, possibly born in Woodforde Halse, date, parents and siblings unknown . She married Francis CLAY at Woodforde Halse in 1762. Any information on her birth, parents and siblings would be wonderful. After the marriage the couple lived in Duns Tew, Oxon.
Best wishes,
Mike Horton

Checking the Northants. MI (1700-1837), there's no sign of Ann's parents marrying in Woodford Halse.

Have you found her burial at Duns Tew, as this may give an age which would narrow down her birth year. I could then have a look in the Woodford Halse PRs, which I can access at my local library.

Dear penny,
Many thanks for your reply. I only know that Ann ADKINS married Francis CLAY in Woodford Halse on 14/10/1762 after banns. Her last child was born in Duns Tew. Oxon in 1783 and Francis died in Duns Tew in 1803. I hope that this narrows down any search that you could kindly do for me.
Best wishes,

Hi Mike ...

Unfortunately, the fiches held by my library are reproductions of the actual registers (not transcripts) and, additionally, there's no index! I therefore really can only search a maximum window ten years as these fiches can be extremely difficult to read.

Can I suggest that you post another thread asking if anyone has the Duns Tew PRs in the hope of finding Ann's burial and a possible age. Alternatively, Duns Tew is included in the Oxfordshire Burial Index - you can get a search done via the OFHS at www.ofhs.org.uk (for a small charge).

Dear PennyEves1,
Sorry I have not replied sooner to you message of the 24th of June but I have now been able to check the Duns Tew marriage and burial records for Ann CLAY nee ADKINS. I first checked the marriages from 1803 ( the death of her husband ) up to 1837 and did not find her remarring. I could not find Ann being buried but there was one unnamed CLAY buried in October 1806 although this could be a child.
Many thanks for your help and she probably left the village to stay with one of her children and died somewhere else.
Best wishes,
Mike Horton
