I am looking for information about any of these Mansfield families. My Husband's great grandfather was Samuel Foster. Samuel was a son of William Foster of Cardiff and Sarah Ann Orton of Mansfield. Sarah's parents were Samuel Orton and Fanny Angliss. Samuel Orton's parents were John Orton and Ann Arby. Fanny's parents were William Angliss and Ann Kirkby. All were from Mansfield.
Samuel Foster was married to Ann Shelton. Ann was a daughter of John Shelton and Dinah Chamberlain.
Anyone know anything about any of these would be great. Thanks

I have checked the IGI where I found Anne's name. She married John Orton in Mar 1823 in Mansfield. I don't have any other info about Anne unfortunately.

Looking for any information of my three generations of Kirkbys in Nottingham. Lewis b.1838, was the grandson, James b 1789, the father and William b. about 1755, the grandfather.
Lewis was supposed to be born in Newark

I approached you last year at the beginning of my Angliss search, I have now begun to put together my Family Tree website, and believe I can now link the Mansfield lot to the coventry/warwickshire lot. Beginning in 1770s with James Angliss fellmonger and leatherdresser, his son John is mentioned in 1831 census as being fellomnger and married Elizabeth Ancliff.
Just wondering if what I'm thinking is on the right wavelength.
Could you send me any more information, especially any christenings. Do you know anything about William Angliss who emigrated to Austrailia? In his biog it is claimed he stems from Mansfield lot.
Thanks Karen

Hi Karen,
I have not spent any time on the Angliss family as I have been working my way backwards and haven't got to them yet. Having said that I have this week ordered the Notts Baptismal CD so can see what's there and send the info on. I havw in the last 24 hours learned that Fanny may have been christened Elizabeth. She was a daughter of William Angliss and married Samuel Orton.
Feel free to wite to me direct and I can sort out what I have.

Regards
Glenda

I realise your message is now somewhat dated, and sadly have only just discovered it. Samuel Orton was my Gt Gt Grandfather, and if you are still interested in this line I do have a bit of information which I am happy to share. It is most refreshing to see the Arby, Angliss, Kirkby, Orton names - quite a rarety! I have more information on these families at camerius.tribalpages.com
or feel free to contact me with specific queries via this thread if you wish.

Hi,
How nice to hear from another connection. These families are part of my husbands ancestry. I am happy to share info too as I see that you have Sarah Ann married to a John Foster on your web site. Sarah married William Foster son of William Foster and Frances Frost. Sarah was Williams first wife and when she died he remarried. My husband is descended from Sarah and William's son Samuel Frost Foster. Which part of the Orton family are you connected to. Please feel free to contact me off site at dggregory@infogen.net.nz

Regards
Glenda
