Hello:
I am searching for the descendants of William and Louisa (Meakin) Gillett. According to the 1901 British Census, they were living at 104 Flewitt Street, Nottingham. Their children were Percy (age 14), Edward (age 12), Harry (age 10), Albert (age 8), Annie (age 7), and Lily (age 3). William's occupation was listed as Greengrocer Shopkeeper. Any leads would be appreciated.

HI, I have only just started researching my family tree and just spotted your post, I don't know whether you want any more information but I thought I would just reply and let you know that william and louisa Gillett (louisa Meakin) was my great grandparents, lily gillett was my grandmother, my tree is the scothon family tree and it is public.

Hi Karen:
I am so excited to get your reply. I've waited almost four years for this! Louisa Meakin is my great grandfather's sister. His name is Edward Meakin. I had originally posted Louisa's name but didn't get any responses so decided to post her husband's name. I would be very interested in sharing information.

My gggrandfather Phineas Scothon emigrated after marrying Ann Barker in Nottinham. They settled in Lee, Oneida Co., NY. Do they relate to your Scothon family tree? There appear to be so few Scothons in the US. How does one access the public Scothon family tree? Thanks for your help. carolbruner@cox.net

Hi Carol, I have not come across your gggrandfather in my research but it is an unusual name and could be related somewhere down the line, I will do abit more research to see if I can find out anymore. To get the scothon family tree I believe you have to subscribe to the world subscription if you are living in us or canada etc. I could send you the information regarding the scothons that I have via email. My maiden name was scothon, most of the scothons I have found have been from mansfield, notts.
Lovely to hear from you. best wishes, karen.

Thank you so much for responding so quickly...it's a pleasure to meet you. I lived in London in the late 60's...too bad I wasn't into genealogical research then. I want to verify a few dates and will send you all that I have. I do know that Phineas/Phinehas Scothon and Ann Barker were married August 01, 1831 in Girton, Nottingham and subsequently emigrated from England to Lee, Oneida Co., New York within the new few years. I am trying to locate immigration data, but so far no matches. I am assuming they would have departed from Liverpool. What do you think? I'll be in touch soon with additional information. Thanks again. Carol

Karen

Was Lily Gillet married to Hedley Vicars, whose parents were Samuel Scothern & Caroline Hitchcock?

If so, I am related! Samuel Scothern was my great great grandfather. Hedley was the brother of my direct descendant John Scothern.

You say your tree is public - how do I get to it?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Best wishes.

Alison

Hi Alison
Yes you are correct Lily was married to Hedley vicars scothon,Lily was my grandmother so we are related, I have since made my tree private but just so you can see it I will make it public again, I did this because there are some people on my tree still living and I am concerned about giving out date of births etc,but I am such a worrier sometimes, its lovely to find relatives, hope you feel the same.
looking forward to hearing from you
