If so, I am related! Samuel Scothern was my great great grandfather. Hedley was the brother of my direct descendant John Scothern.

what was your grandfather's name? You need to know that so you can get a copy of their marriage certificate which will give you her father's details.

There is a Clara Morley marriage registered in Nottingham in 1913, spouse John H CORBETT and another in March 1919 to a John H SMITH.

In 1901 census in Park St Nottingham there is a 4 year old Clara Morley with parents William and Philomena plus 6 sisters....a possibility.

John H Smith is my grandfather, I tried and was not able to get the information. This will help me loads now. My father up to yesterday did not know if his parents were married in Canada or England! I found the ships register with her sailing from England to Canada. He was thrilled. This is my first time doing the family in England. I ahve been doing the family in Scotland up until now. I cannot see any Steven Fisher marriage about this time.

A look at either of these certificates would confirm fathers name.

Hi

I'm quite new to this and I have already hit some stumbling block with family that is quite close to me and need some direction if possible.....

1) I am trying to trace some details over my great grandfather who name was Steven Harry Fisher, I believe he was born in wellingborough. I have been told that he was born out of wedlock and was sent to childrens home, but I do not know how to start tracing him. He married a lady called Florence May Thompson born 1905 and that had a daughter in 1931 called Barbara Jean May Fisher.

2) This concerns Barbara Fishers first daughter. Barbara married Donald Bowers (my grandfather) and their first daughter born 1951 was called Susan Bowers. I have found her birth records but no other indication of her. Family rumour is this child was still born but I have found no evidence of that. Any idea where else I can look, I have been unable to locate a death certificate and I have spoken with the records office of the graveyard she is 'apparently' buried at and they have no record. All suggestions welcome.

My 4X great grandparents were George Cullen and Elizabeth Leeson. They were married in Upton Nottinghamshire 1712. Their two sons George and Gervas were christened in 1719 in Westborough cum Doddington in Lincolnshire. I don't have any birth or death information for George and Elizabeth. Do you know abt Elizabeth Leeson's parents and sibling. Upton is the parish next to Southwell.

If you have any information, I would greatly appreciate it.

Am looking for info on the children of Francis & Elizabeth Raynor Leeson who married Feb. 21, 1802 at Southwell. I believe there were 6 children: Sarah, Maria, John, Thomas,
Elizabeth, & William. Thomas born 1808 married a woman named Sarah, maiden name unknown. He & William left for America about 1842, believe the others remained. John may have married Ann Brett & died about 1884. Elizabeth may have married a man named Shepard. I have found nothing on Sarah or Maria other than christening dates of 1804 & 1805.
Francis born about 1776 was the son of John & Sarah Waywood Leeson who married in Nottinghamshire Nov. 22, 1774. They had at least 2 other children John & Elizabeth.

My earliest known ancestor is a John Leeson born about 1718 in Southwell. Info is difficult to come by this far back. Our lines are likely related, but I don't have any useful info. I did note 3 Elizabeth Leesons born in the early to mid 1690's in Nottinghamshire, none of in the exact locations you mentioned.

Tom WOOD - Warsop, Notts

I am looking for information on my grandfather - Thomas Wood. He lived in Warsop Vale, he owned the "Wood Brothers" factory in Warsop and died of a heart attack in 1970. From my understanding he and his brothers were well know in and around town.
Any little piece of information would be a great help. I am having trouble getting information about my family from other family members.

Yep, the very same.

I had until recently been tracing her as Sarah Truman. I think her name must have looked very similar when I found her. But now I know her real name!

Sarah and Thomas are my gggg grandparents. I think they only had one daughter, Mary, who married William Brackner.

I notice that there are two marriages for John Norman's to Mary Smith's. One in Bunny in 1805 and one at Nottm St Marys in 1818.

I had noticed the pair that got married were having kids baptised in Nottingham also, so I had ruled them out. Maybe I'm wrong then.

The only possible baptism I found for John was 5/10/1800 at Nottm St Nicholas to John and Milicent/Amelia (got that from the LDS page). I thought he would fit in nicely with the John and Mary at Nottm St Marys.

Interested to hear what you have!

I noticed you are seeking Norman and Morris family information. I have just started researching for Morris ancestors in the same region. I do have 2 pages from an old Morris family bible with Norman family names in it. I am assuming that the page entries were written in England because John & Mary Morris didn't arrive in Iowa until 1856.
The entries are:
Henry Norman b. March 18, 1829
Ann Norman b. March 14, 1828
Robert Norman born January 23, 1855
Henry Scott Norman born Nov 5, 1857
ttnn(?) Norman d. Nov 10, 1857 (possibly Ann, page worn away)
Henry Scott Norman died Dec 16, 185? (possibly 1857)

The Morris entries start with Estha Morris died March 31st, 1848 age 43 and James Morris, died June 2nd, 1865 age 55.

Is this part of your family? And how are you related to the Norman and Morris families?

I found your message from May 2008 re Hannah + Thomas Truzzell.
One of their sons, Henry b. 1842, was my gt gt grandfather. I have been unable to find him on the 1861 census (despite trying all the many permutations of the surname!) and just wondered if you could help with this piece of the jigsaw? I know that by 1867 he is in Yorkshire, marrying Eliza Lee, and I have the trail from that point onwards.

Which of the Newton children stayed in England.
On the 1891 census, Alvina is described as married, head of the house, living on own means, with her daughter Eleanor who is aged 25.

John Newton b. 1836 Sneinton Nottingham died in Philadelphia 1893. He went to America sometime after 1891, taking his children with him after his partner Annie Bust died.Frederick b.1856, his son from his first marriage disappears from the census after 1881. I have been told that he could have gone to America too, but can find no evidence of this. Any proof i can find of his emigration or not, would help me to clear up a mystery that i have just discovered.....thanks
