Hi,

I'm looking for Maria Bumpuss b. 10 Jun 1705 in Souldern, Oxford. She married Thomas Smith b. 5 Apr 1698 (in Worth Matravers, Dorset.)
My problem is I have found a reference to her showing the parents I have (Johannis and Mariae) but also stating her death as 1707!!
I know it was not unusual at that time for parents who lost a child to use the name again for a subsequent birth but I can find no other reference.
Can some kind soul please help me?

Mary BUMPUS daughter of John and Mary was baptised 10 June 1705 in Souldern.

Maria BUMPASS an infant was buried 16 September 1707 (affidavit by Sarah BOLT)

whether they are one and the same is a guess.

There is another child baptised, no parents named, called Catharine BUMPASS 14 February 1710.

One can only assume this is John and Mary's child too.

These are the only two in the parish baptisms. However there is a John BUMPASS being buried in Souldern and affidavit by Mary BUMPASS, 22 December 1714.
