My grandfather, John william Chamberlain, married Alice Victoria Smith in 1914 in Banbury Oxfordshire--they had five living children, (one died at a few months, old she was one of triplets) the others being Maurice and Wilma born Nov 1924, my mother the oldest Winifred Elsie born 1915 and Victor John Thomas born 1918, and Frederick Charles born 1920 they lived in Castle Street in Banbury, Epwell and Mollington all in the Banbury area I would like to know when my grandfather died and any other info pertaining to my family

If you have the marriage certificate of Your grandparents, do you know what the names of his parents were. Or does it give his actual age. This would help to find him on a census record to see where he was at least at 1911, which is only 3 years before he married. There are numerous people called John William Chamberlain, you only have to check FreeBMD to see this, so finding which one is him is essential. On the 1911 census there are 43 John William Chamberlains, none of them live in Oxfordshire. On top of this there are 3 Other John Chamberains in Oxfordshire. Some of these can obviously be eliminated because of their age. Looking at Births, there are 25 births between 1875 and 1895 all John William Chamberlains. None of these births was in Oxfordshire.

You state in your previous CHAMBERLAIN post that you've been unable to find a death certificate for your grandfather, John William CHAMBERLAIN.

Have you actually checked the official GRO indexes post-c1919?

I am answering this on the message board, rather than contacting you direct, in case other people duplicate the areas we are trying to help you with.

You cannot rely on the 1886 birth in Warwickshire, being the correct one. This is a death:-

John William Chamberlain born abt 1886 died 1905 Bromyard Herefordshire, Hereford and Worcester, Worcestershire

This does not prove that it is the same John William Chamberlain, but it shows the need to check. You really need the marriage certificate of this man. From that you will find the name of parents of the bride and groom, and possibly be able to match them on an earlier census, which would show you the place of birth and an age. His age may also be on the marriage certificate, but it may just say that he was of full age, meaning he was at least 21 years old.

There is a record of a child, aged 7 months, dying in Warwickshire in 1887

First name(s): John William
Last name: CHAMBERLAIN
Date of burial: 11 Mar 1887
Age at death: 7 Months
Calculated year of birth: 1886
Place of burial: Stoneleigh
Dedication: St Mary
County: Warwickshire
Notes:
Stoneleigh St Mary:
Denomination: Anglican
Coverage: 1813 - 1901
Number of entries: 1,177

It really looks as if you have picked the wrong man.
